Organizers are developing plans for a weekend concert to benefit a Snyder Police Officer who was shot in the head last week.
Organizer Jamie Crowley says she's booked the Snyder Coliseum for the weekend of August 19-21 in an effort to raise money for Darrell Campbell. Campbell has a long road to recovery ahead of him. He remains in critical condition.
Crowley is now trying to spark interest and raise funds on the social media website Facebook.
The Nolan County Board of Realtors was very excited at the number of applicants who applied for their $500 college scholarship. This scholarship was made available to all of the graduating high school seniors in Nolan County, planning to further their education. The NCBR Scholarship Committee was also very impressed with the number of applicants that were qualified to receive this award. It was a very difficult job for the selection committee.
One person entered a plea last week to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings.
John Cole Johnson pled true to a motion to adjudicate. Johnson was originally put on community supervision on June 21, 2010 for burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony. The offense occurred on May 19, 2010.

Culinary arts students from Texas State Technical College will be at Brookshire's grocery store in Sweetwater on Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to fix a great meal and teach those interested how to make the meal.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 50 calls for service, issued five citations and made one arrest on July 14, 2011.
The SPD received 10, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
• Theft — 700 block of Fisher.
• Burglary of a vehicle — 200 block of SE Georgia.
• Criminal mischief — 1400 block of Hailey.
• Criminal mischief — 800 block of E Alabama.
• False report to police officer — 800 block of E Alabama.

• Jerry Washington, 26 — Warrants/possession of marijuana/possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1.
With a wide variety of items on the agenda, the City Commission met for its regular meeting on Tuesday morning, July 12, 2011 at City Hall.
Two strong presentations were made during the meeting, one regarding inspections of the local water storage facilities. John Voller with the engineering firm Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd made the presentation, offering a handout with photos for the commissioners to peruse.
Out of the nine total water facilities, five have been recently updated or are new. The other four were the main topic of the presentation.
Anis Kashani first started quilting as a hobby for many different events.
Kashani still enjoys creating designs for her quilts, but lately she has taken on other mediums to work with.
She has experimented with charcoal content for quite some time. She enjoys working on photo portraits of people and pets. She still enjoys working with this media, although just two years ago she taught herself to paint with acrylics, painting portraits and abstracts.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $3.57, the same price it was one month ago on June 14, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
The national average is $3.65. The statewide average price is eight cents less than the national average, but increased about 12 cents since last week. Texans will find the least expensive average price for gasoline in the state is in El Paso at $3.48. Ft. Worth is reporting the most expensive average in the state at $3.61 for a gallon of regular unleaded. Sweetwater's gas price is $3.58.
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E.12th, encourages parents to get their children immunized now and not wait until school starts. Parents are reminded that all students entering kindergarten are required to have two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine, and two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine; and all students entering seventh grade are required to have one dose of Tetanus and Diphtheria toxoids and acellular Pertussis vaccine (TDAP) vaccine, one dose of meningococcal vaccine, and two doses of varicella vaccine.
The Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development (SEED) Board of Directors met for their meeting on Monday morning, July 11, 2011 at the Chamber of Commerce building.
A winning bid for the 88 acre road construction was awarded to Epic Construction of Abilene and approved by the board. David Todd from Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd oversaw the bid selection and made the presentation.
