The County-City Library is hosting computer classes that can help with computers skills and help upgrading job hunting or work skills.
Experienced technology trainers from the Texas State Library's Technology Expertise, Access and Learning Project (TEAL) are providing the following two-hour training sessions at the library free of charge:

â€¢ Internet Basics: Monday, Feb. 4 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
â€¢ Email: Tuesday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.
â€¢ Microsoft Word: Tuesday, Feb. 5, from 2-4 p.m.
The Abilene region, including Sweetwater, kicked off the 2013 Girl Scout cookie sale with the annual Cookies Now! event.
The event took place in Abilene at the Caddlerock shopping center in the K-Mart parking lot, with several 18-wheelers full of Girl Scout cookies waiting to be distributed.
Each Girl Scout that attended received cases of each cookie flavor.
Sweetwater continues to prepare for the incoming oil boom, as items presented at the City Commission meeting on Tuesday morning, January 8 at City Hall will bring about more change.
One item approved by the commissioners was an ordinance which amends Chapter 18 of the city's Code of Ordinances by adding Article 3. The new article outlines "freight and portable storage containers" by detailing their definition, their prohibition as an accessory structure or building, and providing exceptions and penalties.
Alice Velez from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose and answer any questions one may have regarding diabetes. Pamphlets and materials will be available.
Today it has been 15 years since Irene Martinez took ownership of Dairyland in Sweetwater.
She took over the restaurant on Jan. 13, 1998, after working there for about six months. "I was the main cook at the time and I bought the restaurant from L.H. Howard. The person who was running the place did not want it any more and Mr. Howard let me take over payments for the restaurant and I've been here ever since."
The Sweetwater Police Department on Monday evening responded to the 800 block of Circle Drive regarding a complaint of a home invasion.
According to Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda, the victim stated that multiple suspects entered the residence demanding money. The suspects left with an undisclosed amount of money, along with multiple cell phones.
The victim was unable to provide physical descriptions of the suspects.
The investigation in this case in ongoing.
The "fiscal cliff" and its last-minute agreement obviously affect the national landscape, but it also played a large role on the local front, as the Production Tax Credit (PTC)--which deals with the wind energy industry--was extended in the package.
According to AWEA (American Wind Energy Association), the extension of the PTC will cover all wind projects that will begin construction this year, along with projects beyond 2013 to qualify for the credit.
To develop a wind farm, it takes around 18 to 24 months. Also included was bonus depreciation, all of which will assist the industry.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued no citations and made three arrests on Jan. 10, 2013.
The SPD received 27, 911 calls.
