The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 34 calls for service, issued three citations and made three arrests on Dec. 13, 2012.

The SPD received 17, 911 calls.

Arrested by SPD:
• Male juvenile, 12 — Trespassing on school property.
• Lynne Looby, 54 — Public intoxication.
• Chad Parsons, 18 — Possession of marijuana/possession of a controlled substance.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had three calls for service, served one civil paper and made one arrest on Dec. 13, 2012.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Amanda Eddleston, 33, of Weatherford — Judgment.

SIS takes four teams to first Lego League Robotics Competition

Sweetwater Intermediate School was well represented at the Regional Qualifiers meet in Ft. Worth on Dec. 8. SIS took four teams to the First Lego League Robotics Competition. This is the first year that SIS students have had an opportunity to participate in robotics.

SISD, SPD respond to Conn. elementary school shooting

Nancy Lanza's body was found later at their home on Yogananda Street in Newtown — after the carnage at Sandy Hook Elementary School; after a quiet New England town was scarred forever by unthinkable tragedy; after a nation seemingly inured to violence found itself stunned by the slaughter of innocents.
Nobody knows why 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot his mother, why he then took her guns to the school and murdered 20 children and six adults.

Girl Scouts donate to WTCAC Angel Tree

Local Girl Scouts Troop #7104 recently donated an assortment of clothing and toys to the Angel Tree project through the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center. The girls picked four angels from the tree, two boys and two girls, from ages 4 to 13. Kiwanis Club donates to WTCAC Angel Tree

The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club recently donated an assortment of clothing, toys, music and food to the Angel Tree project through the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center. A local family was adopted by the group, with five children ranging from ages 2 to 14 years old. Throughout the year, the Kiwanis Club raises money specifically for a Christmas project, with around $500 being raised this year. Pictured with the donations are Kiwanis Club president Mitch Moore, club members Brandi Sitter and Nancy Howlett, and club secretary Rachel Newberry.

SEED increases incentive agreement with Cape and Son

The meeting of the SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directors took place on Monday morning, December 10 at the Chamber of Commerce.
Opening the meeting was an executive session, which lasted around 35 minutes to discuss various matters. After the closed meeting, approval was given to increase the incentive agreement amount and terms for Cape and Son.
Geoff Haney with the company made a brief presentation to the board, noting that around 50 contractors recently submitted bids for dirt and track.

Discussion begins on possibility for second industrial park

During their meeting on Tuesday morning, December 11, the Sweetwater City Commission approved the proposal by SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) to sell real estate located inside the Sweetwater Business Park, the 88-acre industrial site.
Thirty acres will be sold to Select Energy, as an incentive agreement has already taken place. They are hoping to build a regional office with this real estate and are anticipating a work base of up to 50 employees in the next two years.

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married. We have a baby, then another, and we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough, and we'll be more content, when they are. After that, we are frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with and certainly we will be happy, when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete, when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, when we are able to go on a nice vacation or when we retire.

FBC Christmas program slated for Dec. 16

If anyone is looking for a way to celebrate the holiday season, your search can come to an end. This Sunday night, December 16 at 6 p.m., the worship choir from the First Baptist Church (FBC) in Sweetwater will be presenting a Christmas program at their church entitled “A Christmas Prayer”.
The musical was arranged and orchestrated by J. Daniel Smith, while the drama portion of the program was written by Matt Tullos. David Woods, the minister of music at FBC, said that the program combines the two elements in sharing the story of Phillip Galloway, the main character.

Kristine Mirelle to perform Saturday

Enjoy a Hollywood performer in Sweetwater on Saturday night at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium where award-winning pianist and contemporary artist, Kristine Mirelle, will perform live with the Sweetwater Municipal band.
A Roswell, New Mexico native, Mirelle describes her music as an infusion of swing, classical, hip hop and soul. What started out with singing on doorsteps and playing the piano in the homes of people who would allow her, has turned into a career in Hollywood performing, singing and song writing.
