Sign beneficial to Theatre, TSTC

Texas State Technical College West Texas (TSTC) has collaborated with the Sweetwater Texas Theatre Acquisition and Renovation (STTAR) board of directors to install a digital sign along Broadway in front of the Texas Theatre, which should benefit both organizations.
The sign will benefit the theater and the entity that owns it, STTAR, by giving them another avenue to advertise showings and fundraisers held for theater improvements. It will benefit TSTC by providing students of a digital signage class real-world experience.

Three dogs available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has three dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female chihuahua mix, a male Pomeranian mix and a male chihuahua mix. According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.

Seven enter pleas in district court

Seven people entered pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued five citations and made no arrests on Nov. 12, 2012.

The SPD received 16, 911 calls.

Accidents:
• 100 block of NE Georgia.

Calls for service:
• Family violence assault — 500 block of E. 12th.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 24 calls for service, served no civil papers and made 12 arrests from Nov. 9-12, 2012.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Bradley Tyrae Emerson, 21, of Snyder — Warrant/motion to revoke probation.
• Thomas Castillo, Jr., 35, of Sweetwater — Warrant/release of surety.

Art show slated for Nov. 17

The West Texas Art Guild is presenting "A Return to the Big Country Art Show" on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Colorado City Civic Center, located at 157 West Second Street in Colorado City.
Guests are invited to bring their art work and spend the day enjoying an art demonstration by Leada Woods of Colorado City. In addition, attendees can tour the city's museum and walk through the "Railhead Days" arts and crafts displays. At the end of the day, everyone may pick up their work.

WASP Museum welcomes Stearman

The National WASP WWII Museum Board of Directors recently hosted a celebration of the arrival of the 1940 Boeing Stearman PT-17 on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the WASP Museum on Avenger Field Road. Wine, cheese and refreshments were served as the Stearman flew over the museum.

Veterans honored at Nolan Nursing

Veterans who reside at Nolan Nursing and Rehab in Sweetwater were honored with an appreciation plaque ceremony on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012. Pictured is Steve Allen, Horace Hoskins, Mark Bolton and Billy Brice. Veterans who were unable to attend the ceremony were John Jordan and Willie Hanley.

TxDOT recognizes employees for safety

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently hosted its annual Safety Awards Banquet to recognize employees for outstanding efforts in vehicle, equipment and personal safety. Employees from the Nolan County maintenance section were recognized for their years of service as safe operators (no vehicle or equipment incidents) and no injury. Employees receiving awards included Joe Ashley, Danny Escobar, Elmer Green Jr., Randy Griffith, Cammy Guelker, Melissa Hinckley, Jeffery Lay, Pio Muñoz, Virgil Pruitt, Mike Rosas, Sergio Ruiz, John Scifres and Kenneth Terry.

Suddenlink team earns top customer service honor

Team includes 96 employees in Abilene, Snyder and Sweetwater
 
Suddenlink’s Abilene-Snyder-Sweetwater team has won an award for the highest customer satisfaction scores of any Suddenlink cable system, based on company surveys conducted the past year. 
Chairman and CEO Jerry Kent, Chief Operating Officer Tom McMillin and West Region Senior Vice President of Operations Dave Gilles recently visited Abilene to present the award to Suddenlink’s local team, led by Director of Operations Jason Gebhart.
