Sweetwater High School football fans will get a unique opportunity to meet new head coach Shane Mobley and members of his staff Thursday while enjoying some food and fellowship.
The event is called "Meet the Mustang Coaches" and will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the local Dairy Queen on 1608 Lamar.
According to store owner Jerry Hulcy, a number of other local celebrities will be on hand to serve up ice cream cones to the public for $1 each, and other food items will be available as well. Also, an autographed football jersey will be given away at the end of the event.
Tax-free weekend is just around the corner and will kick off this Friday, August 17, 2012--the one weekend event that's a reminder to parents, students and teachers that the school year is on the horizon.
For 14 years, Texas has participated in the Tax Free Weekend, allowing families to save money in their back-to-school pursuit. The weekend continues through Sunday, August 19--a week before the school year begins for the majority of public schools in the Lone Star State.
The Nolan County Commissioners met for their regular meeting on Monday morning, August 13, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
A discussion was held regarding a request from Nolan County Sheriff David Warren to make an exception to the travel guidelines to reimburse out-of-state travel expenses incurred on June 17-30, 2012 for a deputy sheriff for training.
J.W. Secrest, a commercial fisherman in Alaska, stopped in at the Sweetwater Dairy Queen to share his catch - a 50 pound King salmon (half grown) - with the morning coffee drinkers on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
J.W., who winters in Fisher County, caught the salmon in Kenai, Alaska. He catches 60 to 13,000 pounds of salmon a year, which includes all five species.
Last year, J.W. also managed to catch an 800 pound shark with a 900 ft long by 15 foot deep net.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 28 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on Aug. 13, 2012.
The SPD received 13, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served six civil papers and made one arrest on Aug. 13, 2012.

Two people entered guilty pleas during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012.
Samantha Mae Blake pled true to intoxication assault, which occurred on Nov. 17, 2009.
For her plea, Blake received two and a half years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system. She will have to pay a $1,000 fine, $484 in court costs and $1,000 in attorney's fees. 85 days have been credited to her sentence.
The Wagon Wheels Square Dancers entertained the residents of Nolan Nursing and Rehab recently. The dancers are celebrating their 38th year of dancing this month of August. The Nolan County Commissioners approved the calling for a bond election in the county during their regular meeting on Monday morning, August 13, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse. The bond election was called for in three propositions.
One proposition was to authorize issuing general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $4,020,000 for the renovating and remediating of the courthouse facade.
The second proposition was to authorize issuing general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $10,245,000 to pay for the construction and equipping of a new County Jail Facility.
Emmanuel Fellowship is excited to celebrate the 10 year ministry anniversary of Eric and Mindy von Atzigen in Sweetwater, Texas. Over the past decade, Eric and Mindy have poured their hearts into our church family and community and we were pleased to honor them this past weekend with a banquet at Texas State Technical College.
