The Roscoe City Council voted unanimously to approve a permit for having a fireworks show July 2. Roscoe City Manager Cody Thompson said they will consult with the fire department before they make the decision to go forward with the fireworks display as the date draws nearer, but said it was best to plan as if they will be able to have the show in case conditions improve.
Thompson pointed out that it has rained during the last two July 4th celebrations, causing the City of Roscoe to either cancel or cut their show in half.
The Sweetwater Enter-prise for Economic Devel-opment (SEED) Board of Directors met for their regular meeting on Monday morning, June 13, 2011 at the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.
Action items approved at the meeting were the minutes from the May meeting and the payment of accounts payable. The financial statements from April 2011 were approved as well, with reports of various payments and projects in good standing.
According Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden, 1,116 acres were burned in a fire near Lake Trammell over the weekend. According to Nolan County Sheriff David Warren, the fire began on County Road 145 and was caused by a burning deer carcass. Ralph Lynch received a citation for the illegal burning during a burn ban. The Nolan County Commissioners recently passed an ordinance banning the sale or use of fireworks in the county.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 43 calls for service, issued one citation and made four arrests on June 13, 2011.
The SPD received 23, 911 calls.

According to the Texas Forest Service, right at 500 acres were burned in a fire near Lake Trammell over the weekend. According to Nolan County Sheriff David Warren, the fire began on County Road 145 and was caused by a burning deer carcass. Ralph Lynch received a citation for the illegal burning during a burn ban.
In light of the Lake Trammell fire on Friday, June 10, some decisions were made by the Nolan County Commissioners at its regular meeting on Monday morning, June 13, 2011 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
A major approval was made banning the sale and use of fireworks due to the extremely dry weather conditions. Audience input was offered at the beginning of the discussion, with most voicing their agreement in the ban.
The annual Flag Day retirement ceremony at the Sweetwater Elks Lodge has been postponed due to the Nolan County burn ban and will be rescheduled when the burn ban is lifted.
Sweetwater Outreach Week was held June 9-11, 2011, and many local youth from local churches helped in efforts to assist local homeowners.
SOW is designed to help homeowners have pride in the house, help members to learn the blessings of service, and to give the Sweetwater community a renewed sense of faith in their fellow neighbors.
SOW selects several homes in the Sweetwater area that are in need of a “face lift†and then sends out a team of volunteers to scrape, paint and do various forms of yard work, all free of charge. They provide the paint, equipment and workers.
