The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 155 calls for service, issued two citations and made seven arrests from Mar. 29-31, 2013.

The SPD received 78, 911 calls.

Accidents:
• 1600 block of Lamar.

Calls for service:
• Criminal trespass/stalking — 800 block of San Carlos.
• Theft — 100 block of Florida.
• Theft — 900 block of Brookside.
• Information — 1700 block of Hailey.
• Criminal mischief — 100 block of E. New Mexico.
• Burglary of a habitation — 700 block of W. 5th.

Arrested by SPD:
• Jessica Davis, 21 — Warrants.
• Beatrice Vera, 41 — Warrants.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely today as we have a 70% chance of precipitation; some of the storms could be severe. Otherwise, expect cloudy conditions with a high near 59 with eastern winds at 10 to 15 mph. Winds will shift to the north in the morning, and gusts could get as high as 20 mph.
Tonight our shower and thunderstorm chances continue at about 70%, and clouds remain in the area with a low around 41. Winds will be from the north at 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Cline Shale Alliance to meet April 12

The next scheduled regional meeting of the Cline Shale Alliance is scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2013 at the campus of TSTC West Texas in Sweetwater. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in “The Center’ seminar room. 
Registration and reservations can be made online at www.clineshalealliance.com. At the home page click on the “events” button to register and reserve a seat. 
Speaker topics for this meeting include oil and gas, pipe lines and base load gas power plants. Communities will also be giving updates on local and regional oil and gas activities. 

Minion over Sweetwater

Many in Sweetwater saw a peculiar sight on Easter Sunday when a large Minion blimp was flying around neighborhoods in town.
Universal Pictures is promoting "Despicable Me 2" scheduled for release on July 3, with an elaborate aerial advertising campaign in partnership with Van Wagner Communications’ Airship Group.

DPS Joint Task Force successful in capturing 45 fugitives, seizing contraband

LUBBOCK – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today announced that a DPS joint task force made up of various divisions within the department conducted an operation in the Lubbock region last week that resulted in the capture of 45 wanted fugitives and the seizure of illegal narcotics.

Jaycees host Easter egg hunt

The Sweetwater Jaycees hosted their annual Easter egg hunt at Fraley Park for children of the community.
Hundreds of plastic treat-filled eggs and many other Easter prizes were sought after at the hunt. Shown is Donavin Adames taking part in the annual hunt.

While sitting in a padded office chair, a contrast from his cowboy-inspired attire, Robert Clark recollected a recent celebration dinner he had with his wife in Fort Worth.
She sensed his apprehension and when questioned, Clark said he was just waiting for the shoe to drop--everything leading up to that particular moment had gone so well.
But like most wives, she had some valuable advice to offer her husband. He was in the right place and at the right time of life, so she told him not to worry, but to have faith.

The SPD received 33, 911 calls.

Accidents:
• 800 block of First Street.
Calls for service:
• Theft — 700 block of E. Broadway.
• Sexual assault — Sweetwater.
• Duty to register sex offender — Sweetwater.

Arrested by SPD:
• Billy Sweek, 40 — Theft/possession of a dangerous drug.
The Sweetwater Fire Department responded to five ambulance calls and three fire calls over the past 24 hours.
• Four ambulance calls in the city of Sweetwater.
