The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 50 calls for service, issued six citations and made one arrest on June 6, 2011.
The SPD received 19, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
• Burglary of a building — 200 block of W. Broadway.
• Criminal mischief — 100 block of SW Georgia.
• Family violence assault — 1000 block of Lamar.
• Theft — 500 block of E. Broadway.
Arrested by SPD:
• Robert Franklin, 27 — Warrant/failure to identify fugitive.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served nine civil papers and made two arrests on June 6, 2011.
June 7th
The Georgia Pacific Sweetwater plant recently donated $1,200 to the Big Country Medical Reserve Corps. The BCMRC is a group of medically trained volunteers who provide medical and public health assistance to the community. The BCMRC is part of a nationwide network of local community volunteers with medical training and support personnel who work with such entities as police and fire departments, city and county governments, health departments, hospitals and medical schools to improve public health and ensure preparedness for and respond to medical emergencies.
Cancer Services Network announces plans to broadcast CancerCare’s Connect® Workshop Cancer Survivorship: Living With, Though, and Beyond Cancer. The workshop will offer four sessions for cancer survivors and their loved ones. The information is primarily for cancer survivors who have recently completed their treatment, but some may find the information helpful even if they were treated a long time ago or are newly diagnosed. Cancer survivors, family members and friends have a chance to learn about cancer-related issues with others experiencing a cancer diagnosis.
Many attended the 2011 Nolan County Relay For Life event on Friday. Many local businesses sponsored the event and many held several fundraisers to help donate money to the American Cancer Society. June 6th
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 57 calls for service, issued 10 citations and made three arrests on June 2, 2011.
The SPD received 32, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
• Harassment — 700 block of W. Sixth.
• Theft — 1600 block of Elm.
• Assault with injury — 1300 block of Josephine.
• Criminal mischief — 700 block of Robert Lee.
Arrested by SPD:
• Jonathan Granado, 21 — Warrants.
• Delores Williams, 20 — Disorderly conduct.
• Delores Williams, 20‚ Minor in consumption (separate from first arrest).
Aubrey Phillip Childers was re-indicted last week by the Nolan County Grand Jury. Childers was charged with sexual assault, a second degree felony, enhanced to a first degree felony with one prior conviction. Court paper stated that Childers sexually assaulted the victim, knowing that the victim did not consent and was unconscious or physically unable to resist or unaware that the sexual assault was occurring.
Local cancer survivors walked the first lap, the “Survivor Walk” at the 2011 Nolan County Relay For Life. Family and friends followed after the first lap. Many activities took place at the event including live music by Bitter Creek and Static Pulse and a performance by Team Chip Tae Kwon Do. Fundraisers were also held at the event to add to the money raised for the cause.
On Saturday, June 11th, John S. Young of Sweetwater, Texas, will be installed as chairman of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Education Institute. He previously has served as vice chair. The Institute promotes and supports the administration of justice in Texas, particularly through the continuing legal education of criminal defense lawyers and staff. TCDLEI also provides scholarships to continuing legal education seminars for deserving attorneys actively engaged in the defense of criminal cases.
Five homes were featured on the Home and Outdoor Living Area Tour sponsored by the Women’s Forum and held as a benefit for the Pioneer Museum on Sunday afternoon.
The only home entirely up for view was the C.D. Boyd home at 1600 Morris. The uniquely decorated home featured black accents throughout, artwork Boyd has collected from his travels, and varying ceiling heights of 14, 12, 11 and 9 feet.
