The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 56 calls for service, issued 11 citations and made no arrests on May 25, 2011.
The SPD received 27, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
• Theft — 500 block of Locust.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served seven civil papers and made one arrest on May 25, 2011.
Arrested by NCSO:
• Mark Henry Williams, 28 of Sweetwater — Warrant/assault family/house member with previous conviction.
• Lareshia Shana Carey, 20 of Abilene — Warrant/theft by check and Mitchell County warrant/theft by check.

Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development executives and board members recently attended the AWEA Windpower 2011 festival in Anaheim, Calif. There are approximately 1200 vendors and 20,000 attendees attending the event. Several Sweetwater/Nolan County based wind companies also displayed at the conference.
Highland Heights United Methodist Church recently consecrated a collection of items for the Samaritan Hospitality House located in Colorado City. It ministers to families who are visiting loved ones incarcerated in local prisons. With a homelike atmosphere, the “house” provides weekend lodging for family members during their stay free of charge. Congregational members are pictured above with the consecrated articles that filled the altar. Standing at back row from left to right are Andrea Beall, Jo Whitfield, Betty Bryant and John Meadows.
Five students from Highland High School were inducted into membership of the National Honor Society in a traditional candle light ceremony held on May 12.
Members were selected by a Faculty Council for meeting the high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character.
Students inducted were Josh Andrews, Haley Hill, Kara Hughey, Jessica McCain and Nabil Sutjipto.

May 24th
Six people entered pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday.
The WASP Museum’s personal grilling crew, Fifi’s-Flyer French-Fryers, will be serving cheeseburgers and home-made french fries from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, at the WASP Museum, which is located at Avenger Field, west of Sweetwater. The grilling crew will be on the west side of Hangar One and the public is invited to enjoy old-fashioned cheeseburgers with regular fries or the specialty sweet-potato fries. “We started preparing sweet potatoes last year at some of our tailgate parties and they went twice as fast as the regular fries,” explains Jo Henderson, one of the grill crew.
A 40-year-old Blackwell man was found alive after surviving nearly six days without food or water following his disappearance from his family’s ranch home located nearly six miles north-northwest of Blackwell, Texas. Doyle Lee Parsons was last seen around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.

May 23rd
One person was killed in a motorcycle crash on Saturday afternoon at 6:33 p.m. in Nolan County. The crash was on Interstate 20 mile marker 237 in the westbound lane.
Deceased was Gerome Cloyd Black, 79 years of age from Andrews, Texas. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:25 p.m. by Nolan County Judge Tim Fambrough. The body was taken to McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
