Two pleas entered in District Court

April 15, 2013

Two people have recently pled guilty during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings.
Jamie Yeazel aka Jamie O'Connor pled guilty to tampering with government records, a state jail felony. Yeazel was sentenced to five years of community supervision and will have to pay a $750 fine, $343 in court costs, $500 in attorney's fees and $5,336 in restitution to Texas Health and Human Services. Yeazel will also have to serve 120 hours of community service.

Separate entities provide combined medical care

In Sweetwater and across Nolan County, residents can reap the benefits of the current and continuing growth within the medical community. Through the private doctors' offices, the newly-named Shannon Clinic, and Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, access to critical health care services is becoming more convenient.
"Medical services in Sweetwater continues to thrive with great medical support for most of our community’s needs," said Donna Boatright, the hospital administrator at RPMH. "In fact, local healthcare continues to grow and expand to meet the changing needs of Nolan County."

Varied opinions expressed during public hearing

A considerable amount of input was heard during a public hearing that took place at the April meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission.
The agenda stated that the public hearing would be for the consideration of a request to abandon and close a right-of-way located on East 5th Street, between Elm and Fowler Streets. The area is 80 feet wide and 180 feet long.

Local boutique owners busy after boots featured on American Idol

The owners of Paradise Boutique in Sweetwater, sisters Jacqi Johnson Martinez and Sheretta Johnson are celebrating — and now very busy — after a pair of their custom bling boots recently made their way, and a big impression, on the Fox Television show American Idol.
According to the sisters, they were contacted a few weeks ago by a friend of American Idol contestant Janelle Arthur of Tennessee, wanting a pair of their blinged boots for Arthur to wear on stage.

Beat the Street for Little Feet draws near

The spring season is in full bloom, which means it's the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors!
On Saturday, April 27, Cornerstone Christian School will host "Beat the Street for Little Feet"--a family-fun event that will get everyone active and assist the local school. The function will be held on the school campus, located at the 4th and Elm Church of Christ in Sweetwater.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 49 calls for service, issued two citations and made five arrests on April 11, 2013.

The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Prowler — 900 block of W. Third.

Arrested by SPD:
• Jennifer Adkins, 30 — Warrant/theft.
• Megan Treadway, 20 — Warrant.
• Tommy Serrano, 25 — Driving while intoxicated.
• Jeramiah Dillin, 31 — Public intoxication.
• Justin Coutts, 27 — Public intoxication.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served one civil paper and made no arrests on April 11, 2013.

One song in particular stuck in my head that went like this: “I’ve got a tiger by tail it’s plain to see...” I’m sure many of you remember that song. It’s about a man that went bear hunting, and when he finally caught one, he didn’t know what to do with it.

Upcoming meetings presented in city manager report

The month of May has several events lined up, which were noted by City Manager Eddie Brown during his monthly report at Tuesday's meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission.
On May 4, a celebration marking 105 years of the Sweetwater Fire Department will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire station. Grant Madden, the city's Emergency Services Director, extended an invitation to the commissions and the public for the event.

Michael Lawrence was named the Sweetwater Mustangs Player of the Week.
