The Nolan County Hospital District Board of Directors met for their final regular meeting of 2011 on Tuesday evening, Dec. 27 at the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
The board approved several purchases in the meeting, including chairs for the Med/Surg patient rooms and visitor chairs. The chairs currently in place have been around for over 35 years.
43 patient chairs and 43 visitor chairs will now be purchased at the prices totaling around $25,000 and $29,000, respectively, which is under the budgeted price.
Big Country Electric Cooperative would like to make its members aware that beginning January 1, 2012, Texans wanting to claim an exemption from Texas sales and use taxes on electricity and other items used in agricultural and timber operations must provide a registration number to the supplier onÂ Texas Agriculture Sales and Use Tax Exemption Certification Form 01-924.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 46 calls for service, issued seven citations and made three arrests on Dec. 27, 2011.
The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Commissioners met for their final regular meeting of 2011 on Tuesday morning, Dec. 27 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
The commissioners approved the purchase of one mobile radio for the Sheriff's Office. Nolan County Sheriff David Warren noted that the majority of the purchase will be paid off by the Homeland Security grant from 2010, which will finish off the grant.
The 2011 Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Employee of the Year is Keri Halford. The announcement was made at the RPMH Christmas awards ceremony.
Halford was presented her plaque and monetary award by Rosa Best, CNO. Halford was described as dedicated and professional and one who goes above and beyond in her job duties. Best praised her for numerous compliments from co-workers and patients.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has one pet available for adoption.
The pet available for adoption this week is a male husky mix puppy, about one year old.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.

A 41-year-old man died early Christmas morning in a fire in his Sweetwater home.
According to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden, firefighters received a call about smoke coming from a house on the 200 block of Lewis Front Street between 2 and 3 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011. "People saw smoke coming from the house and called 9-1-1."
