A new church is opening in Sweetwater, and its leader is inviting everyone to learn more about it. This Sunday, March 18, 2012, the Followers of Jesus Christ will be meeting in their facilities at 922 Roscoe, on the corner of Roscoe and Poplar in Sweetwater (the former New Life Tabernacle).
Dearl Messick, the church's founder, is a resident of Loraine employed with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Along with being the pastor of the church, he has also written a book.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 52 calls for service, issued four citations and made two arrests on March 13, 2012.
The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

Another overseas scam has recently hit Sweetwater. According to Sweetwater Police Officer Danny Heine, a local business was the victim of a scam involving a counterfeit money order sent to the Philippines by a local resident.
A number of updates were heard from the SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) staff during the group's board of directors meeting held on Monday morning, March 12, 2012 at the Chamber of Commerce.
Executive Director Ken Becker gave two updates regarding the Sweetwater Business Park to the board, one being that updated appraisal numbers need to be acquired for the industrial area. Following some discussion, the board decided to look at similar properties in order to determine the new number for interested clients in the future.
San Antonio â€“ The Junior Market Barrows Show was held on Feb. 20, 2012, at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Grand ChampionÂ Dark Crossbred honors were received by Taryn Cunningham of Breckenridge, Texas.Â Cunningham is currently a member of Stevens County 4-H. Her barrow, â€śBubblesâ€ť was bred by Ty Lettow. Cunningham would like to attend Texas A&M University one day.
The Seventh Annual Child Abuse Awareness Family FunFair will be held Wednesday, April 4, from 4-6:30 p.m. with the special ceremony â€śTime of Remembranceâ€ť from 6-6:30 p.m.Â Â Once again the Nolan County Coliseum Annex will be the site for this event.Â

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served no civil papers and made five arrests on March 12, 2012.

Don't forget that the deadline to register for the Big Country Biggest Winner Contest is Thursday, March 15, with the kick-off event to take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Sweetwater High School Track. Several gym memberships will be given away at the event.
Four people pled guilty to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday, March 12, 2012, with District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney Barrett Thomas prosecuting the cases.
With attorney Russell Abound, Vicki Virdiana Guerrero and Raven Javon Weaver both pled guilty to possession of marijuana, prosecuted as a second degree felony. The two were in possession of more than 50 pounds of marijuana, but less than 2,000 pounds, on May 4, 2011, according to their original indictments.
