National Farmers Union (NFU) adjourned its 109th annual convention in San Antonio, Texas. More than 500 Farmers Union members from across the country gathered to celebrate the past year’s achievements, look ahead to future challenges, and vote on the farm organization’s priorities for the coming year. The convention, themed, “Spur to Action,” is where NFU members are able define the focus of the organization’s work.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued one citation and made four arrests on April 11, 2011.
The SPD received 18, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
• Theft — 1900 block of Hubbard.
• Threats — 1600 block of Henderson.
Arrested by SPD:
• Edward Arrellano, 24 — Warrant.
• Tammy Spraggins, 37 — Warrants/possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Alfonso Arevalo, 29 — Warrants.
• Randell Wilson, 33 — Driving while license invalid.

Members of the Nolan County Foundations have been stressing the number 101. As reported by Homer Taylor, Executive Director of the NCF, the number represents the number of Nolan County high school graduates who have been awarded $1,000 scholarships to attend any Texas College since the NCF started the Scholarship Golf Classic in 2005.
Three people entered pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday, April 11, 2011.
On Monday morning, April 11, the Nolan County Commissioners' Court met for its regular meeting at the Nolan County Courthouse.
At the meeting, a bid was received for approximately 70,000 tons of Grade 3 crushed rock for this summer's seal coating project. Vulcan Materials Company in Abilene offered the only bid to the commissioners which was accepted and approved.

April 11th
A small vehicle was totaled when it collided with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 20 and Highway 84 on Friday. No injuries were reported in the wreck and the 18-wheeler sustained minimal damage to its side.
The annual County-City Library book sale will be held at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16.
Friday they will be selling hard back books for one dollar, and paperbacks for fifty cents. Friday only, they will have collectible and coffee table style books, ranging from five dollars a book to twenty-five dollars a book.
On Saturday they will be selling books by the bag. Three dollars will buy a bag of hard back or paperback books, and one dollar will buy a bag of magazines.
Texas Midwest Community Network (TMCN) recently held a seminar for TMCN member cities. The seminar “How to Create a Local Leadership Program” was attended by representatives from 12 communities throughout the region.
Leadership Sweetwater and Leadership Hamilton were selected as examples to emulate. Instruction and information shared at the seminar was provided by Jacque McCoy of Sweetwater and Jane Crouch of Hamilton.
