A tribute to Terry Lane, Sweetwater Jaycee who recently passed away, was set up at the 53rd annual Sweetwater Jaycees World’s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up.
Several vendors set up each year at the World’s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up, including local businesses like DT Sorrells Saddlery of Sweetwater.

Sweetwater High School classmates, all juniors, took home every award during the 52nd annual Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer pageant held Thursday night at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. Laney Wallace was crowned Miss Snake Charmer, while Carly Johnson received runner-up honors and Ashley Stevenson was awarded second runner-up.
Both Wallace and Johnson tied for first place of the talent competition.
Each winner and talent winner was awarded scholarship money.
In light of the recent rabid cat sighting at Lake Sweetwater, the Sweetwater Animal Control would like to inform all pet-owners of the legal responsibilities of rabies vaccinations.
• Texas state law requires pet owners to vaccinate their dogs and cats against rabies by 4 months of age.
• Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies either every year or every three years depending on the type of rabies vaccine used.
• Local ordinances may have more stringent requirements than state laws about rabies vaccinations.

The Woman's Forum of Sweetwater met on Wednesday to plan this year's Library Tag Day. The date for the event, benefitting the County-City Library, will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Shown are Becky Brock, Karan Bergstrom, Lita McEachern, Joetta Daniel and Gayle Greer.
The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club is currently holding a raffle for a 1981 Honda Silver Wing motorcycle. With only less than 22,000 miles, the bike is in excellent condition. The drawing will be held on April 27, and the winner does not need to be present to win. Tickets are $5 per entry and can be purchased through any Kiwanis member or at the Local Loan at 605 Lamar, where the motorcycle is currently on display. The money raised from the raffle will help to finance various programs of the Kiwanis Club.
Sweetwater Middle School competed in the TMSCA (Texas Math and Science Coaches Association) held at Lincoln Junior High in San Angelo on Saturday, March 5. Four students from Sweetwater Middle School qualified for the state competition to be held in San Antonio, Texas on April 9. Eathan Speer, an eighth grader, placed third in the eighth grade science and qualified for the state competition with a score of 152, outscoring 42 students. Cody Chapman and Chance Adams tied for fourth place and Leah Warren received sixth place.

A rabid cat has been identified at Lake Sweetwater. Rabies is a fatal viral disease. Protect yourself, your children, and your pets against rabies. Be wary of wild animals. Rabies is in our wildlife, and it can cross over to domestic animals. This is the breeding season for skunks. Bats and skunks are the most common carriers of rabies. Do not feed, handle, or approach wild animals. Children should be told to stay away from unknown or wild animals--including dogs, cats, and kittens.
--Contact your veterinarian about vaccinating your pets.
--Never handle wild animals.
Rolling Plains Rural Heath Clinic raised awareness by supporting the fight for the cure of Muscular Dystrophy (MD) during the month of February. February was Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month. Clinic employees wore green ribbon t-shirts every Friday throughout the month to support MD. On Feb. 18, the clinic held an "Empty Your Pockets Day" in each department. The department with the most money collected for Muscular Dystrophy won a break party hosted by Nancy Nicholson with Encompass Home Health. The total raised by all departments was $686.14. On Feb.
