The Nolan County Commissioners approved the calling for a bond election in the county during their regular meeting on Monday morning, August 13, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse. The bond election was called for in three propositions.
One proposition was to authorize issuing general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $4,020,000 for the renovating and remediating of the courthouse facade.
The second proposition was to authorize issuing general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $10,245,000 to pay for the construction and equipping of a new County Jail Facility.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 142 calls for service, issued eight citations and made nine arrests from Aug. 10-12, 2012.
The SPD received 100, 911 calls.

The weather in Sweetwater for Tuesday will be hot, mostly sunny and a high near 100. Winds will be from the south at 10 to 15 mph.
This evening is calling for a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 75. Winds will remain from the south at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Many local firemen worked on the fire shown on FM 2035 near County Road 190 on Sunday evening. All of the local departments were out on different fires at different times in the evening working on lightning fires.
Mulberry Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, Trent Volunteer Fire Department and Sweetwater Fire Department were working on the fire shown.Â Some of the others included west of Blackwell, southwest of Nolan, west of Trent near the school and others on the west side of Taylor County.Â
About 100 people lined the walls outside of the new Sweetwater Goodwill location at 701 E. Broadway on Saturday morning before its 10 a.m. Grand Opening. "I think this is great," said one waiting customer Arlene Hartman. "I can come in and shop, go to Sonic and get me a drink and then go back to my shop," she added. Hartman is the owner of Arlene's Second Hand Rose and Arlene's Books.
No injuries were reported from a wreck that occurred on Lamar Street on Sunday morning, Aug. 12, 2012, according to Sweetwater Emergency Services Manager Grant Madden.
The wreck involved a Jeep driving north on Lamar Street and a Kia that failed to yield right-of-way from Jenny George Lane. The Jeep, which contained two people, overturned. One person was in the Kia.Â
The Roscoe Fire Department responded to a commercial motor vehicle accident at 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at the intersection of Highway 84 and CR 111.
The driver of the vehicle was transported toÂ Rolling Plans Memorial Hospital by the Sweetwater Fire Department. The vehicle was transporting milk at the time of the accident.

A local business was robbed on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, when a woman did not like the price of an item she planned to purchase.
According to Lt. Randy Hanes of the Sweetwater Police Department, a woman entered a business on the 1400 block of Hailey Street in Sweetwater and became upset when she learned the price of an item she had ordered. "There was a dispute over the payment of the property and an altercation ensued."
