Chavela MuĂ±oz (Shorty) was named the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital 2012 Employee of the Year. The announcement of the winner was made at the annual Christmas celebration at the hospital on Dec. 19. Donis McCluskey, Director of Environmental Services, made the presentation along with Steve Holcomb, RPMH Board President. She received a plaque and $100. Donis described Chavela as a dependable, hard worker and a key member of the housekeeping team. Shorty had been with RPMH since 2008 as a Housekeeping Tech. She and her husband, Ralph, live in Sweetwater.

Members of the Nolan County Foundation Board are reminding spring 2013 Nolan County high school seniors that the Nolan County Foundation will be promoting its annual Scramble for Scholarships Golf tournament scheduled for April 20, 2013 to be held at the Sweetwater Country Club.
A local church youth group is offering middle school and high school students a new opportunity to ring in the New Year in a safe and fun setting.
The Salvage Yard is the sixth through twelfth grade student ministry at Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Sweetwater. The group will be sponsoring the "AllThingsNew - New Year's Eve Bash" on Monday, December 31 at the church, located at 1418 Hailey.
Doors to the event will open at 8 p.m. and there will be a $10 entry fee with food and drinks available. Each person will also be entered for chances to win door prizes, including $100 in cash.
The County-City Library hosted Story Hour on Thursday, Dec. 27, for local parents and children. Eloisa Hernandez (shown, far left) is shown reading to the children and their parents.
She also led the group through several songs and games. Parents and children were encouraged to participate in the activities.

The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department wants to highlight the importance of continuing influenza vaccination, as well as fostering greater use of flu vaccine after the holiday season into January and beyond.
The health department wants to encourage residents to use preventive actions:
â€˘ Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
â€˘ Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 45 calls for service, issued no citations and made no arrests on Dec. 26, 2012.
The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

â€˘Â Criminal mischief â€”Â 400 block of W. New Mexico.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had three calls for service, served no civil papers and made four arrests on Dec. 26, 2012.

â€˘Â David Scott Dickinson, 34, of Montgomery â€” Warrant/motion to revoke probation.
â€˘Â Roy Rocky Jasso, 29, of Snyder â€”Â Warrant/motion to revoke probation.
It's cold again today! (but what do you expect in December?)
With the late cold front that came in, the high will be near 37 and sunny. Winds will be from the north at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

It's not too late to make a donation to Sweetwater Goodfellows. Recently Trey Aiken, Mike Fernandez and Chris Casto presented a check on behalf of Texas National Bank to Billie Johnston, President of Goodfellows.
This year donations were considerably low in collection boxes around town and in local schools that firefighters picked up and collected. It has also been seen with the monetary donations that have been collected and mailed in.
Various action items regarding the Nolan County Sheriff's Office were presented and approved at the county commissioners' meeting held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Among the items approved was a program which will allow Nolan County Sheriff David Warren to provide firearms proficiency certificates to qualified honorably-retired peace officers who last worked with Nolan County.
