The Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital sponsored a free cholesterol screening on Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department, located at 301 E. 12th Street in Sweetwater.
Cholesterol can play a critical role in a person's health. It's important that all people know what their cholesterol level is and how it affects their risk of developing heart disease. People also need to learn about all the risk factors for heart disease.
Suddenlink expects to invest nearly $120 million this year in Texas, and by the end of the year will have invested nearly a half-billion dollars in the state since 2006.
Suddenlink is the third-largest operator of its kind in Texas, offering cable TV, high-speed Internet, phone and other services. It has increased its capital spending in the state in recent months to help introduce new and enhanced services.

The 2nd Annual Ridin' For Cash Bull Bash was once again "an amazing event," according to event organizers Matt and Annie Miles. "We are so proud of our home town for all of the support." According to Annie Miles, there were over 1,500 people that came through the front door of the Nolan County Coliseum for the event this year, with last year's total being 1,000. "We raised $11,026 total through tickets sales and the silent auction, among other things. Last year we raised $5,714," said Miles." We also had a great turn out for the dance that followed the event, with about 400 people."
Over the next few years, millions of dollars in contracts will be awarded by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
The Lubbock district office with the U.S. SBA will be holding a Government Contracting Basics workshop to help those interested find out how to sign up and gain access to these contracting jobs. The workshop will take place in Abilene on two upcoming dates.
Tears and smiles for triumph come naturally following the emotional but âeasy readâ of âThe Stories of Fayâ in the book, Deprivation Trauma, by Texas author Zalora Price. The book will be presented from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Hastings Books, 1102 E. Broadway in Sweetwater.Â
Purchased books will be signed by the author.Â
February is American Heart Month and Sweetwater residents are doing their part to raise awareness for heart health and funds for the American Heart Association. Texas National Bank employees organized a bake sale last week with all of the proceeds going to the American Heart Association. Dogs are searching the landfill in Big Spring this afternoon looking for clues in the disappearance of Hailey Dunn, according to Colorado City city manager Pete Kampfer.
Investigators are searching the landfill as part of the elimination process of search areas.
The search may be related to follow ups on a combination of both new leads and old leads, Kampfer said.
Dunn, 13, was last seen on Dec. 27 at her home in Colorado City.

Freda Radcliff is one of "Hailey's Angels," a group of six who organized a volunteer appreciation dinner this weekend for search crews combing through the fields for the missing Colorado City teen.
"We weren't appreciated for what we tried to do for them," said Radcliff.
Radcliff says there's only one way to describe it.
"A big fiasco," she said.
The culprit, a video created by "Hailey's Angels" that chronicled search efforts from the 13-year old's disappearance to now.
World War II (WWII) veterans are being offered the chance of a lifetime â a free trip to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The West Texas Honor Flight has up to 125 seats available to be filled by area veterans. The group uses this opportunity to honor and thank WWII veterans for their service to the nation. Participants will receive accommodations, food and transportation free of charge. Medical personnel and other volunteers will be on hand to assist the veterans during the trip as well.
Many local residents celebrated Presidentsâ Day with days off of work and American flags being displayed. Feb. 12 was President Lincolnâs birthday and Feb. 22 is President Washingtonâs birthday. Show are flags displayed at Sweetwater Intermediate School.
