ABILENE, TEXAS â€“On Tuesday, December 18, 2012, Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas Board, presented a check in the amount of $1,300.00 to Cancer Services Network.

First United Methodist Church will be presenting â€śSounds of the Seasonâ€ť tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the FUMC Sanctuary. The program consists of contemporary Christmas music as well as a live nativity scene with adults and children.
â€śWeâ€™ve been working on the program for about a month,â€ť says Lori Ortega, who is directing the program. Martha Taylor is the accompanist.
â€śSounds of the Seasonâ€ť boasts an adult and childrenâ€™s choir, as well as a bell choir. Soloists for the childrenâ€™s choir are Devin Gutierrez, Samantha Jones, and Allison Marlett.
Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) will be revisiting their school safety plans following the horror that unfolded at the Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday, December 14 in Newtown, Connecticut, killing 20 students and six teachers.
As part of his Superintendent's Report during the December 17 meeting of the SISD Board of Trustees, Terry Pittman stated that procedures are already in place on the campuses, such as in the front office areas to enter the buildings. Additionally, each classroom door can be locked, which could slow down a potential attacker.
An Amber Alert has been issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) for Jonathan Jose Guillen, Jr. He was last seen in San Antonio, Texas on Dec. 13, 2012 at 12:15 a.m.
Jonathan was born Jan. 13, 2012. He is Hispanic, is 2'6" tall, weighs 25 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
The suspect is Jonathan Guillen, Sr., Hispanic male, 23 years old, date of birth is Nov. 22, 1989. He is 5'8" tall, 185 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white muscle shirt with black or red shorts.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 54 calls for service, issued four citations and made two arrests on Dec. 17, 2012.
The SPD received 28, 911 calls.

Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 77, with southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph and increasing up around 25 to 35 mph in the afternoon. Gusts could top out at 45 mph, and expect widespread blowing dust after 2 p.m.

The low will be around 27 with mostly clear skies, and western winds around 25 to 30 mph. After midnight, the winds will decrease to 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.
This year's campaign for the Nolan County United Way (NCUW) is "Give Where You Live", which focuses on serving local entities.
Wendy Smartt is the group's Executive Director, and she leads a board of volunteers from the community who hope to impact the community through a caring power. The organization is run solely on pledges.
To donate to the Nolan County United Way, a one-time donation can be given by a payroll deduction or a quarterly basis. These donations allow the NCUW to reach thousands within the county by supporting nine agencies.
The Sweetwater Municipal Band will once again entertain a crowd at the Municipal Auditorium with their annual Christmas concert Thursday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy classic and contemporary Christmas tunes from an experienced group of musicians, along with a new vocalist. Local singer Rebekah Chrismer will perform with the band for the first time for their Christmas concert, and Larissa Place, who sang a few tunes with the band last year, will sing a few with them this year as well.
