Highland Heights United Methodist Church recently consecrated and delivered a collection of used suitcases, toilet tissue, kleenex, paper towels, paper cups, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, soap and toothbrushes to Gateway Family Services.
Gateway ministers to individuals involved in family violence and sexual assault in a five county area, Scurry, Nolan, Mitchell, Fisher and Kent.
Multiple contracts between the county and Turner Construction--for service as construction manager at risk--for the remediation of the county courthouse faÃ§ade, construction of a new jail, and/or construction of new sheriff's offices was approved at the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday morning, October 22, 2012.
However, the contracts are strictly dependent on the result of the propositions before the public on the November 6 general election ballot. While presented with the chance to enter executive session on the matter, the commissioners took immediate action.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 36 calls for service, issued two citations and made five arrests on Oct. 22, 2012.
The SPD received 27, 911 calls.

Texas State Technical College West Texas graduated a new class of LVN to ADN students on Aug. 17, 2012. However, the students' studies did not conclude with graduation, the class continued to prepare for the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination) test. As of Oct. 1, 2012, the graduating class earned a 100% passÂ rate on the NCLEX-RN exam.
The Boosting Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics competition took place on Saturday, Oct. 20. A record number of area teams participated in the competition at The Center at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater. Advancing to the regional competition in Dallas Nov. 9-10 are Sweetwater (winner of the Robotics competition), ATEMS and Roscoe Collegiate (first and second place winners of the BEST award).

A double celebration of teachers and seniors will take place at the final home game of the season for the Sweetwater Lady Mustang varsity volleyball team with "Teacher Appreciation and Senior Recognition Night".
On Tuesday night, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m., the team will honor Sweetwater ISD teachers. In addition, the seniors on the team will be recognized â€” Kathleen Campbell, Shelby Cason, Kelsi Crosson, Kendra Crosson, Angela Garza, Destiny Osteen, Suede Shirley and Janell Walker.
Other members of the team are juniors Kayla Chowning, Larissa Locklar, Taylor McPherson and Mikki Reschman.
On Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at approximately 6:30 p.m., a black male subject wearing a white t-shirt and long, dark gray athletic shorts, with white stripe down the outside of each leg, entered the Chillerz #5 Shell convenience store located at 800 12th Street in Roscoe, Texas and robbed a female subject of $200 cash, according to the Nolan County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect is believed to be a black male in his early 30s, approximately 5'9"-5'10" and weighs around 175 pounds. The suspect had some facial hair, which included a short goatee.
