The West Texas Rehabilitation Centerâ€™s Round-Up for Rehab events in Sweetwater this week were a huge success as the largest amount ever was raised during the two events. The Shrimp Peel and Auction on Tuesday combined with the sale at on Wednesday at Sweetwater Cattle Auction this year raised $62,260 according to Dan Huggins, Director of Donor Relations at the West Texas Rehab Center. Last yearâ€™s record total of $33,000 dollars was almost doubled. Huggins said, â€śWow, we are in awe of the amount raised by our great friends in the Sweetwater area.
The eighteenth annual Diabetes Texas Style workshop will be Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Shelton Building, 2000 Pine Street, Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Registration and exhibits open at 8 a.m. and the workshop concludes at 11:45 a.m.
Success is being seen at Sweetwater ISD in the choral department, as several choir students from Sweetwater Middle School (SMS) and Sweetwater High School (SHS) students recently made the TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) South Zone Honor Choir.
The students auditioned on Saturday, October 20 in Abilene for coveted seats in the choir, in which several SHS choir students helped with the audition. The choir is composed of 7th, 8th, & 9th grade students from throughout the Big Country area.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 63 calls for service, issued four citation and made five arrests on Oct. 31, 2012.
The SPD received eight, 911 calls.

While these and other male celebrities can pull off a bearded look most any time of the year, one local is bringing a challenge to area businessmen--just like him--to sport some facial hair for 30 days while promoting a cause and raising some money in the process.
As a new and unique fundraiser for the local Relay for Life, which benefits the American Cancer Society, local State Farm agent Richard Fergeson hopes that a community-wide "Movember" campaign can bring some awareness to men's cancers.
Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater hosted the TSTC Board of Regents, TSTC Systems and Community Leaders from Abilene, Brownwood, Breckenridge and Sweetwater on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012.
The Community Appreciation Dinner was held in honor of the communities TSTC West Texas serves and the TSTC Board of Regents.
The dinner, catered by the TSTC Culinary Institute, was held on the Sweetwater campus.
