The Abilene Prairie Dogs will host Nolan County Community Night at Walt Driggers Field on the campus of McMurry University on Tuesday, June 26. The Prairie Dogs will host the Rio Grande Valley White Wings. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the first pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
This year, as part of the TSTC (Texas State Technical College) Women's Leadership Institute's (WLI) mission to support the TSTC Values, each TSTC location â€” Waco, Harlingen, Marshall and West Texas (Abilene, Brownwood, Breckenridge, Sweetwater â€” each did a community project on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
The Sweetwater group spoke with Russell Jones, City of Sweetwater Director of Public Works, about painting the picnic tables at Newman Park and he was thrilled with the idea. He has asked that the pillars of the pavilion be painted as well.
Our law enforcement and fire departments, along with other entities, work together to make the community a safe place to live. Joe Angel Reyna and Rian Hill are shown under water at the Sweetwater Municipal Swimming Pool this past week. Many area families cool off and have fun, spending quality time together at the pool.
Texas Midwest Community Network hosted a special event at the Bill Franklin Center in Coleman to recognize state lawmakers who serve districts in the region. The purpose of the Lawmakers Luncheon was to provide an opportunity for state senators and representatives to meet with local officials in preparation for the 2013 Legislative Session.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 31 calls for service, issued no citations and made no arrests on June 21, 2012.
The SPD received 22, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had four calls for service, served two civil papers and made no arrests on June 21, 2012.

A live music performance, featuring musician Brian McRae, will be held at JavaJax in downtown Sweetwater on Saturday evening, June 23.
McRae has recently recorded a new CD entitled â€śPainted Worldâ€ť which will be available for purchase on the night of show. Local residents Suzi and Rex Scaggs are the executive producers of the new album, which includes a song titled Sweet Water.
The Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) will be holding their annual 4th of July celebration, parade and barbecue on Saturday, June 30, 2012. A parade will kick off the event at 5 p.m. on Main Street in Blackwell.
At 5:30 p.m., the Blackwell VFD will be selling barbecue brisket and sausage plates with all the trimmings at their station located on Main Street. Plates are $10 for adults and $5 for children, with all proceeds benefitting the Blackwell VFD.
