A contractor for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will refresh pavement markings on roadways in 11 counties within the Abilene District over the next few months.
More than 200 miles of pavement will receive new markings under the contract. The reflectivity of pavement markings diminishes over time due to wear and tear from traffic, sunlight and weather conditions, said Roy Wright, P.E., Transportation Operations Director for TxDOTâ€™s Abilene District.
The Abilene Chamber of Commerce will host Representative Susan L. King on Thursday, Nov. 17, 201, at the Abilene Convention and Visitor's Bureau at 1101 North First Street in Abilene at 5:30 p.m.
Representative King will open the forum with a short presentation on the interim work of the 82nd Legislature and will then conduct open discussion with opportunities for questions and answers.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 54 calls for service, issued 16 citations and made one arrest on Nov. 10, 2011.
The SPD received 30, 911 calls.

The Sweetwater Fire Department responded to seven ambulance calls and four fire calls on Nov. 9.
â€¢ One fire call in the city of Sweetwater.

â€¢ Three fire calls in the County.
â€¢ Three ambulance calls in the County.
Roscoe State Bank invites the public to meet their two newest employees, Jason Jones and Dawna Fullwood on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, from 4-7 p.m. at Roscoe State Bank in Sweetwater. Refreshments will be served.
Book Club members from Sweetwater High School will host a Book Fair from Scholastic from Monday, Nov. 14 through Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, to help raise funds for library projects. Student volunteers from the newly formed Book Club have helped to plan the fair and will also help run it.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has seven animals available for adoption.
One of the adoptable pets is a white female dalmatian mix dog from last weekâ€™s batch of adoptable animals. Other adoptable dogs include a brown and white male chihuahua, a black and brown female catahoula and a brown male chihuahua. This time around, three cats are also available for adoption including an orange female tabby, a black and white female long-haired cat and a gray female tabby.

The history of Veteran's Day dates all the way back to 1918 when an armistice, or a truce, put an end to World War I (also known as The Great War) on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
