Financial services firm Edward Jones was named the Advisory Solutions Firm of the Year by the Money Management Institute as the firm that most exemplified overall excellence and contributed to the long-term success and sustainability of the wealth management industry, according to Jason Blake in Sweetwater.
On June 8, 2012, the 2011 Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Awards were presented at the Texas Capitol in Austin. The ceremony was conducted by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).

The Nolan County Commissionerâ€™s Court will meet on Monday morning, June 25, at 9 a.m. and will be voting to award certificates of obligation to fund the courthouse repairs and construction of the new Nolan County Sheriffâ€™s Office and Jail, provided that there is not a valid petition submitted that will force the issues to a November bond election.
The 4th Annual df Ranch Triathlon was held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Lake Sweetwater public boat ramp and was the USA Triathlon Texas State Sprint Championships.
The triathlon was be a timed race that includes a 500-meter swim in the lake, 14 mile bike on a rolling hills course on FM 2035 and a 3.1-mile run on County Road 252.
The SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees met for their regular meeting at noon on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Administration Building.
Two public meetings were held during the meeting--one regarding the 2012-13 tax rate and the other for the district's technology plan. While no input was given for both open forums, action was taken on both matters.
Rookie free agent Joseph Banyard, a running back who starred at Sweetwater and the University of Texas-El Paso, inked a three-year contract this past week with his second National Football League team, the New Orleans Saints.
Banyard also participated on a tryout basis in the Saintsâ€™ minicamp that was held from June 5-7 in New Orleans.
Following his transfer from Texas Christian where he initially committed, Banyard spent his final two years of college eligibility at Texas-El Paso where he rushed for a total of 1,490 yards with 14 touchdowns.

The Women of First Presbyterian Church Sweetwater made and donated plastic mats to the County-City Library. The mats are made out of plastic bags. The bags are cut and rolled into â€śplarnâ€ť plastic yarn and crocheted into mats. They began the project making mats for the homeless, but wanted to give locally. The mats will be used for the libraryâ€™s story times. â€śWe are very grateful for them thinking of an giving to the library,â€ť said Becky Brock.
