Several county employees were honored with a Service Award during the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday morning, July 9, 2012, held at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Pictured is Jan Bartlett with Judge Tim Fambrough; Bartlett has served as the Justice of the Peace Chief Deputy for the past 20 years. Also at the meeting, David McDonald was awarded a 15 year service pin for his role as Sheriff Chief Deputy.
Robert McReynolds was also recognized at the meeting on Monday morning for his 10 years as the Nolan County Coliseum Manager.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 153 calls for service, issued 12 citations and made four arrests from July 6-8, 2012.
The SPD received 69, 911 calls.

Area residents once again enjoyed the festivities â€śOn The Bricksâ€ť in historic downtown Roscoe to celebrate Independence Day on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
A parade kicked off the activities, followed by food, crafts and kidâ€™s activities in Old Town Park and a Mud Bog at George Parks Field. The live music â€śOn The Bricksâ€ť was provided by Greg Maldo and Curtis Potter.
The evening ended with a bang with a fireworks show.
As the official summer season gets underway, much of the nation has been breaking records with 100 degree temperatures. While many continue to plan outdoor activities, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is urging locals to protect themselves from the sunâ€™s heat and ultraviolet rays, preventing heat exhaustion and skin damage.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are many precautions Americans can take to protect themselves from UV rays.
Samuel Ojeda, 19 years of age from Del Rio, Texas was driving a 1999 Chrysler Sebring east bound on Interstate 20 in Nolan County.Â
About 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2012, near mile marker 231, a Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Trooper observed Ojeda driving the vehicle and stopped him for a traffic violation.Â
A verbal consent to search the vehicle was given.Â The Trooper located a small amount of cocaine and marijuana with a street value of about $20,000.
Many area residents attended the Roscoe Independence Day parade on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
Entries entered into the parade varied from fire departments, civic organizations, individuals and others, but all had one main theme, patriotism.

To any first responders in and around Nolan County, the Smalley Foundation will host a gas pipeline training awareness class will take place at the Sweetwater Fire Department. The class will be held in the training room on three separate nights including Tuesday, July 31, Wednesday, August 1, and Thursday, August 2, at 6 p.m. each evening.
The mission of the Smalley Foundation is to increase safety and awareness for those who live, work and play near the nationâ€™s oil and gas sites and pipelines through empowering the general public, training first-responders and partnering with industry.
SWEETWATER, Texas â€“ A year and a half after opening, Shermco Industriesâ€™ Sweetwater office recently threw its long-awaited grand opening celebration. The open house event was a customer appreciation barbecue for the companyâ€™s West Texas client base, and a big hit with close to 100 customers, employees and local businessmen that attended.
Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and many members of the community showed their support for the newest Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce member, Year Round Yard Sale, on Friday, July 6, 2012, with a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the business at 710 Lamar Street. Store owners are Temy Teel and Bobbie Dunn.
Reserved season tickets for the 2012 football season will be up for renewal to current option holders beginning Monday, July 9 through Friday, Aug. 3.
Tickets are $30 for five home games and may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD administration office. Reserved ticket sales for the general public go on sale on Monday, Aug. 6 during regular business hours and continue through Friday, Aug. 24.
