Texas State Technical College West Texasâ€™ vocational nursing students from Breckenridge and Sweetwater campuses administered approximately 600 flu vaccines to the Abilene State Supported Living Center's employees on Oct. 3 and 4.

During the Monday morning county commissioners' meeting, Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden shared that the Emergency Vehicle Driving Simulator from the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX)--part of the Texas A&M University System--would be at the fire station for the first part of the week.
From Monday through Wednesday, a morning and afternoon session was held, which offered training on defensive driving, followed by operation on the simulator. The simulator gives drivers various scenarios to be completed.
Nolan County Girl Scouts recently presented Homer K. Taylor, Executive Director of the Nolan County Foundation, with a thank you poster for being selected for a matching grant of $5,000. The grant will go towards the renovation of Camp Boothe Oaks. Making the presentation were Crystal McFaul, Lesley Knight, Haedyn Ramirez, Haley Ramirez, Ana Hall, Homer Taylor, Cheyenne Moorhead, Kate Hall, Gabby Gomez and Morgan McFaul.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is gearing up for their annual Breast Cancer Survivorsâ€™ Luncheon this Friday, with early numbers showing a large crowd coming together for the cause.
An early preview of the event was given as part of the Administratorâ€™s Report given by Donna Boatright during the Nolan County Hospital District Board of Directorsâ€™ meeting held on Monday night, October 22 at RPMH. As of Monday night, over 50 reservations have been received for the Friday luncheon.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 47 calls for service, issued two citations and made two arrests on Oct. 23, 2012.
The SPD received 23, 911 calls.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Invasive breast cancer strikes 12 percent of American women. As the leading cancer among females, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is celebrating survivors, remembering loved ones and raising awareness regarding the importance of advance detection at the Breast Cancer Survivors Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 26.
Taking place at the RPMH ER Classroom, the luncheon will feature keynote speaker Charlotte Brooks who will speak on her firsthand experience with breast cancer. Brooks is known locally as a business leader, philanthropist and volunteer.
