The Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains will be having a "Sundae Fun!" event on Sunday, October 7th at Camp Boothe Oaks.
"Join us as we make sundaes and discuss the Girl Scout program in Nolan County," said event organizers. "We are looking for K-12 girls to join the troops, as well as any adults who may want to become more involved."
In the program, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership and strong values. Annual membership dues are $12.
The Region 14 Education Service Center (who gets the grant for Headstart) recently bought four iPads per Headstart classroom at J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center.Â
Lenior Peterson was the Region 14 representative who made this happen for Sweetwater. There are six Headstart classrooms in all in Sweetwater so there are 24 new iPads for Headstart students to learn on at the school.

Linda Linn will be at the County-City Library in Sweetwater on Oct. 9, 16, and 23 to teach a Telling Our Stories workshop. The previousÂ class, held in February, had their stories made into a book.Â "We hope toÂ add the stories from this class to the book that is in the library from the previous class," said Becky Brock, Library Director.
The workshop is free and open to anyone of any age. No sign-up is necessary; just show up to any class on either Oct. 9, 16, or 23. Linda says "When you think about writing your life story, it can be overwhelming."
Sharron Davis,Â WASP Museum Director, recentlyÂ presented a replica Silver Wings pinÂ to C.S. Wilkins, a founding board member of the National WASP WWII Museum at the Colorado City ISD Wall of Honor Ceremony.
Mr. Wilkins, a graduate of Colorado City High School was honored for his meritoriousÂ military service andÂ other outstanding achievements.Â As a young high school student, C.S. would hitch-hike from Colorado City to Avenger Field to watch the WASP in training there and was inspired by them to become a pilot himself.Â
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued one citations and made three arrests on Oct. 1, 2012.
The SPD received 24, 911 calls.

Today, expect sunny skies and a high near 85. Winds will be from the south-southeast at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Sweetwater High School junior girls and senior girls will face off in a powderpuff football game, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, in Mustang Bowl.
The game is sponsored by the Sweetwater High School student council. A $1 donation is asked for entrance to the game. A concession stand will also be available at the game.
All proceeds from the game will go to Nolan County United Way to the Breast Cancer Friday Night Fight for the Cure game during the volleyball and football games on Friday, Oct. 12 in Sweetwater.
On Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, a report of theft of property was reported.
Between the dates of Aug. 31, 2012 to Sept. 4, 2012 a person(s) entered a connex container located in the southeastern part of Nolan County near or around the community of Nolan. The person(s) took numerous items from the container.

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3. It will be hosted by the Abilene Regional Airport, but will be held at the Chamber of Commerce, located at 810 East Broadway.
The Abilene Regional Airport is located at 2933 Airport Blvd., Ste. 200. They are owned and operated by the City of Abilene.
Don Green is the Director of Aviation. The Abilene Regional Airport serves sixteen counties over a 90-mile radius, with the Abilene city staff and tenant staff totaling an approximate 500 employees on the property.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital announced plans to implement a new tobacco-free policy on all campuses, effective Jan. 1,2013.
Hospital leaders say the new policy reflects the health system's mission, "We are eliminating tobacco-use on our properties to provide a healthy and safe environment for employees, patients and visitors and to promote positive health behaviors," said Donna Boatright, administrator at RPMH.
