The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 33 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on Feb. 15, 2012.

The SPD received 15, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Theft — 1800 block of Lamar.
• Burglary of a building — 400 block of E. 13th.
• Burglary of a habitation — 500 block of W. 6th.
Arrested by SPD:
• Elizabeth Hanneman, 32 — Driving while intoxicated.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had seven calls for service, served two civil papers and made no arrests on Feb. 15, 2012.

Calls for service:
• Reckless driver — Highway 84.

Ludlum Measurements honored for 50 years of service

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce hosted a 50th anniversary celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at the Sweetwater Country Club for Ludlum Measurements. Many members of the community attended the reception and several presentations were made to founder Don Ludlum.

Courthouse reconstruction continues

During their meeting on Monday morning, Feb. 13, the Nolan County Commissioners approved two contracts with Wigington, Hooker and Jeffrey Architects toward repairs and reconstruction of the Nolan County Courthouse and construction of a jail and possible offices for the county sheriff.
The contracts include--for both projects--the estimated budgets, services and responsibilities of the parties. A timeline of both projects was presented, which consisted of evaluating proposed constructions.

City meeting postponed

February 16, 2012

The regular monthly meeting of the City Commission was scheduled for Tuesday morning, Feb. 14, 2012 at City Hall. However, travel and unforeseen circumstances led to the lack of a quorum, resulting in the postponement of the meeting.
Nonetheless, a few non-deliberating items were briefly presented. Commissioner Jerod Peek read a resolution which recognized the economic contributions of the Ludlum family to Sweetwater as the company bearing the family's name is celebrating 50 years of business this year.

Three dogs available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has three dogs available for adoption.
One of the adoptable pets is a female basset hound mix shown on Tuesday. Also available are a female mixed breed puppy, a male mixed breed dog (brown) and a male terrier mix (white).
According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.

The SPD received 89, 911 calls.

Accidents:

• 800 block of E. Arizona.

Calls for service:
• Forgery — Sweetwater area.
• Criminal mischief — 1200 block of Towncreek.

Arrested by SPD:
• Michael Diggs, 26 — Disorderly conduct/fighting.
• Stacee Diggs, 24 — Disorderly conduct/fighting.
• Sammy Soto, 17 — Disorderly conduct/fighting/failure to identify.
• Ricky Rodriguez, 21 — Disorderly conduct/fighting.

RPMH employees contribute over $13K to United Way

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital employees strive to be the number one contributor to the Nolan County United Way with a donation of $13,946. TFU elects Wes Sims President for ninth term

Wes Sims was re-elected to a ninth consecutive two year term as President of the Texas Farmers Union (TFU) during the organization’s 110th annual convention in San Antonio. Sims, a family farmer and cattle producer from Sweetwater, was first elected in 1996 to lead the Texas family farm and ranch group.

Jason S. Blake qualifies for Edward Jones’ Financial Advisor Leaders Conference

Jason S. Blake, an Edward Jones financial advisor in Sweetwater, qualified for the firm's 2012 Financial Advisor Leaders Conference.
This conference recognizes financial advisors who are among the leaders in the financial-services firm.
Blake was one of only 570 financial advisors who qualified out of the firm's more than 11,000 financial advisors.
The 2012 conference will be held in May at the firm's headquarters in St. Louis, Mo.
