This weekend the Sweetwater Jaycees Worldâs Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up will be back in full force. The biggest event that West Texas and the world knows doesnât come together without preparation. Meetings about the Rattlesnake Round-Up took place nearing the event to discuss parking, tours and other aspects that need to be addressed.
Sweetwater High School's DECA, a competitive business and marketing organization, chapter recently attended the state competition conference in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Two teams, consisting of four students, have advanced to the international competition in Salt Lake City, Utah. ICDC, (International Career Development Conference), invites qualifying students from all 50 states, several American territories, and a number of Canadian territories to attend the conference to compete, attend leadership conferences and earn scholarships.
The internationally acclaimed U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C., will continue its long history of presenting free public performances when it appears at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium on Monday night, April 2, 2012 at 7 p.m. The Jazz Ambassadorsâ concert in Sweetwater is sponsored by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.
The Sweetwater Professional Firefighters Association (SPFA) is selling t-shirts to raise money for the purchase of wild land gear for Sweetwater firefighters in the event of more wildfires. Last year, the White Hat Fire in southern Nolan County burned more than 80,000 acres. The equipment the SPFA is looking into purchasing will help immensely if there is a repeat of last summer.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 37 calls for service, issued seven citations and made no arrests on March 5, 2012.
The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served two civil papers and made no arrests on March 5, 2012.

The Sweetwater Jaycees Rattlesnake Round-Up is approaching fast, and this event brings many temporary food vendors. A temporary food vendor is a food establishment that operates for a period of no more than 14 consecutive days in conjunction with a single event or celebration. All temporary food vendors should have a copy of their last inspection form visible to customers. The public can help control unpermitted individuals and organizations from selling food by asking if they are permitted.
Western Diamondback Rattlesnake hunters have been busy preparing to turn in their pounds of the snake for the 54th annual Sweetwater Jaycees World's Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up to take place this weekend.

The West Texas Children's Advocacy Center will host this month's Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce coffee event at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at their office, located at 317 Oak Street.
The Open Window, located at 316 Oak Street, hosted an Open House last week with many in attendance. The boutique specializes in the latest fashion trends, home dĂŠcor and shabby chic vintage finds.
Owner Stacey Borders said, "I have always had a passion for fashion and accessories. When Cox Jewelers decided to close, I decided to begin this new venture."
The store is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They can be reached at 325-933-4198.
