Renee Carey was recently announced as the 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year within Sweetwater Intermediate School (SIS) for Sweetwater ISD.
For the past eleven years, Carey has been with the school district, with a total of 16 years of teaching under her belt. Carey currently serves as a 4th grade teacher.
From this time forward, Republican and Democrats will share polling places and vote at the locations listed below.

Precincts 1 & 10: The Broadway Baptist Church is a polling place for Republican & Democrat voters. Therefore, voters that wish to vote either Republican or Democrat party and live in Precincts 1 & 10 will now vote at Broadway Baptist Church, 710 E. Third St., Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
Sweetwater High School recently announced the ACT/SAT Honor Roll for the school year. To be named to the honor roll, students must score at least a 24 on the ACT and a 1100 on the SAT.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 40 calls for service, issued four citations and made no arrests on May 17, 2012.
The SPD received 25, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 11 calls for service, served one civil paper and made one arrest on May 17, 2012.

The Big Country Biggest Winner contest came to a close on Thursday evening, May 17, 2012, at Newman Park. An awards ceremony took place with many teams present.
On Wednesday night, June 22, 2011, the world was introduced to local resident and longtime Sweetwater Jaycee Riley Sawyers through the Animal Planet show "Rattlesnake Republic". Almost a year later, Sawyers recently found out that the show was picked up for a second season.
Cancer Fears the Walker was the motto for this year's Nolan and Scurry County Relay for Life. Shown are members of area communities in the first lap â€”Â the Survivor Lap â€”Â celebrating those who have survived cancer or who are currently battling cancer.
Teams of Nolan and Scurry County residents gathered at the Sweetwater High Track on Friday, May 18, at 7 p.m. for an overnight relay against cancer. This yearâ€™s event marked the 10th anniversary of the Relay in Sweetwater.
Nominations for members to serve on the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors are now being accepted through May 29. Nominations should be in writing and should include the name of the nominee, a brief justification of why the nominee should be approved and the name and contact information for the person submitting the nomination.
A worker with GE Wind Services was involved in an industrial accident on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the Trent-Mesa Wind Farm, located east of Sweetwater and off of Adrian Road at County Road 131.
The incident took place as the employee was working on a transformer. An electrical discharge occurred, letting off a bright flash at the scene. The worker was wearing a protective suit at the time, and the machine was still in tact after the accident.
The Nolan County Cruisers hosted their second car show benefitting the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Nolan County Courthouse. A total of 48 vehicles were entered into the show, raising $1,000 for WTCAC. A check was presented to WTCAC on Thursday, May 17, 2012.
