(Abilene) â€“ Texas State Technical College West Texas will graduate 138 highly-skilled graduates for the Texas workforce. Â As the oil and gas industries boom throughout West Texas, engineers are being snapped up. Â Aaron Hall, the student speaker at graduation on Friday, has been working full-time at Stellar Automation for three months. Stellar Automation, located in Big Spring, focuses on engineering needs for the oil and gas industries.Â
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 32 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on Aug. 15, 2012.
The SPD received 16, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had four calls for service, served no civil papers and made four arrests on Aug. 15, 2012.

Rarely will a media outlet make the news itself, but during the weekly Kiwanis Club meeting on Wednesday, August 15, the local newspaper was the topic of discussion.
The program for the day was given by Terri Leifeste, the interim publisher at the Sweetwater Reporter. Joined by her husband Alvin--who also oversees the local newspaper, the positive changes being made were presented to the civic club.
During Monday's guilty pleas, one defendant pled guilty to four different cases involving sex offenses against a child and received community supervision, fines, jail time and community service in each case. According to 32nd Judicial District Attorney Ann Reed, several factors are taken into consideration in determining how to successfully prosecute sexually-based child abuse cases. Experience indicates that when a case of this nature is tried to a jury without the benefit of some evidence other than the victim's testimony, it is very difficult to win a guilty verdict.
The Sweetwater Fire Department, Sweetwater Police Department and Nolan County Sheriffâ€™s Office all responded to a grass fire that started just before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15.
The fire was directly north of the Jack Lambert Apartments, burning between Neff St. and Newman St.
According to Fire Chief Grant Madden, the cause of the fire is still unknown. The Fire Department will continue its investigation.
The SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) Board of Directors met for their regular meeting on Monday morning, August 13, 2012 at the Chamber of Commerce building, where discussion took place on a possible incentive proposal for a local company.
Benny Cornett with Cornett Computer Repair and Sales spoke to the board about his desire to grow his local business. With a repair shop located in downtown Sweetwater, Cornett continues to gain large commercial clients around Sweetwater and throughout Nolan County, such as courthouses, lawyers and real estate agents.
