As Texas families are gearing up for their holiday road trips, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is four cents less than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.Â The current statewide average is $3.05.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 49 calls for service, issued one citation and made no arrests on Dec. 21, 2011.
The SPD received eight, 911 calls.

The Sweetwater Fire Department responded to nine ambulance calls and two fire calls on Dec. 21.
â€˘ Seven ambulance calls in the city of Sweetwater.
Sweetwater emergency services personnel responded two three different accidents within an hour on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, in the area.
According to Sweetwater Emergency Services Manager Grant Madden, one call came in around 3 p.m. about an accident near Palava in which a man was accidentally pinned between a truck and a wood pile. The man's leg was broken and he was flown to Abilene via helicopter.
Several have entered guilty pleas this week to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings, prosecuted by District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney C. Barrett Thomas.
The winners of the Sweetwater Reporter Christmas coloring contest have been chosen. Second grader Hartley Sager (pictured) was the first place winner and received a $50 gift card as her prize. Third grader Adrianna Moreno was the second place winner and received a $25 gift card as her prize. The winners are shown with Gloria Rudel. The Sweetwater Elks Lodge will be having their annual Free Throw "Hoop Shoot" contest on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at the Sweetwater Intermediate School gym.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with a 9:30 a.m. start. The contest is open to all boys and girls ages 8 through 13. Contestant age groups will be determined by their age as of April 1, 2012.
For instance, if a contestant will be 7 years old on April 1, 2012, he is too young to participate; if a contestant will be 14 years old on April 1, 2012, he is too old.

Over the weekend, Sweetwater emergency services personnel responded to a wreck on the 1400 block of Lamar Street. A Ford Mustang was reportedly driving south on Lamar when it lost traction and struck the telephone pole.Â The south bound lanes of Lamar were shut down for a little while as they removed the car and replaced the pole. There were no serious injuries reported.
The Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) Board of Directors met for their final meeting of 2011 on Monday night, Dec. 19, 2011 at the Administration Building.
Sweetwater Middle School (SMS) brought their campus report to the board through the school's principal and vice principal, Jeff Withrow and Danette Price, respectively.
