The Future Sweetwater class of 2012-2013 gathered for their first day on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at the Texas State Technical College Center.

A local regulation regarding retests on the new STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) exams was discussed during the Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) Board of Trustees' meeting on Monday evening, September 17 at the Administration Building.
Last year, the district examined retention and the impact it made within the district. Several years ago, a policy was passed--in accordance to state guidelines--which determined passing and testing requirements for some grade levels.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has four dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female dachshund mix, a male shih-tzu mix, a female chihuahua mix and a female Chinese crested. According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 48 calls for service, issued two citations and made six arrests on Sept. 18, 2012.
The SPD received 10, 911 calls.

Caribbean Pork Kabobs
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 to 15 minutes
1/2 cup pineapple juice
3 tablespoons Mrs. DashÂ® Caribbean Citrus Seasoning Blend, divided
1 pound pork tenderloin, cut into small cubes
1 sweet onion, cut into cubes
1 red bell pepper, cut into cubes
1/2 fresh pineapple, peeled, cut into cubes
Mix pineapple juice and 2 tablespoons seasoning blend in a small bowl.
Pour 3/8 cup (6 tablespoons) of the pineapple juice mixÂture over the pork in a separate bowl and the remaining over the vegetables. Stir to coat evenly.
