Sometimes parents may feel overwhelmed with the many demands in their lives while trying to raise children, fulfill their employment requirements and take care of all of their other responsibilities. Children's Connections, Inc. is pleased to announce a new parenting program designed to strengthen families.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has recently announced that three schools in the SISD â€” East Ridge Elementary, Southeast Elementary, and Sweetwater Intermediate â€” have been named National Title I Distinguished Performance Schools.
This prestigious honor is awarded for outstanding academic performance and the schools will take part in a recognition ceremony for their high accomplishments this spring.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 42 calls for service, issued two citations and made no arrests on April 6, 2011.
The SPD received 29, 911 calls.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 11 calls for service, served three civil papers and made three arrests on April 6, 2011.

The Taste of Sweetwater is an annual event people of Sweetwater and the surrounding areas have come to enjoy. It is a chance for residents to sample foods from many local restaurants and other food establishments under one roof. This year, the event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 11, at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex. The cost is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for children ages 3-12.
As a way to "celebrate the efforts to end child abuse", the 6th Annual Child Abuse Awareness Banquet was held on Tuesday evening, April 5, at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex, sponsored by the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center (WTCAC).
Peggy Parrott with the WTCAC led a presentation honoring the late Amy Rainey, who was instrumental in setting up the Angel Tree program eight years ago. A spinoff of the Salvation Army outreach with the same moniker, children who receive services from the Advocacy Center receive Christmas gifts from citizens within the community.
Blackwell One Act Play students competed in a One Act Play Zone contest in Roby on March 22 and advanced on to the District competition. The play was "Over the River and Through the Woods" by Joe DiPietro. Around 5 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, April 5, 32nd District Court Judge Glen Harrison denied the request for a temporary injunction of residents from Oak Creek Reservoir and Lake Sweetwater to stop the City of Sweetwater's implementation of the new lease agreement.
A packed courtroom of residents â€” with even some hallway overflow â€” attended the nearly three-and-a-half hour hearing held at the Nolan County Courthouse. Leading the cause was Clarence Brockett, Jr., an attorney from Midland who also is a recent lake property owner.
In 2010 Goodwill Industries was awarded their first grant funding for veteran's assistance. Other funding for veteransâ€™ assistance is supported by proceeds from the sale of $2 Veterans Cash scratch-off lottery tickets. This in itself has helped many veterans in so many ways.
Goodwill Industries of West Texas helps support veterans from young to old. Those who have served our country now have support that was well past due.
