The local, collaborative efforts to bring awareness to child abuse was recognized during the 7th annual West Texas Children's Advocacy Center (WTCAC) banquet held on Tuesday evening, April 6, 2012 at the Nolan County Coliseum.
The theme for the evening was "Together We Can Help Children's Hearts Mend". which was highlighted through the evening's keynote speaker. Jennifer Morris, a business litigation attorney from Dallas, gave a stirring speech to the audience on her personal experience with child abuse and overcoming obstacles to achieve success.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has eight dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male Shepherd mix, two male mixed breed dog, male terrier mix and four Shepherd mix puppies â€”Â two male and two female.
According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued two citations and made one arrest on April 2, 2012.
The SPD received 18, 911 calls.

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, at the County-City Library located at 206 Elm Street. The library is owned by Nolan County and the City of Sweetwater and is under the management of Becky Brock.
The Sweetwater Campus of Texas State Technical College West Texas will host a College Preview and Open House on Saturday, April 14. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to the public. TSTC West Texas advisors will lead prospective students on a campus tour where they will meet the college's top-notch faculty and have the opportunity to check out first-hand the brand-new automotive alternative fuel trainers current students are using, as well as the wind turbine drive train the Wind Technology students train on.
The Texas Midwest Economic Development Alliance met in Anson on March 7, for their spring meeting.Â One of the purposes of the Alliance is to bring educational topics and information to Alliance members.Â Approximately 35 cities were in attendance.
A featured topic of the day was presented by Kirstin Smith and Ken Becker, with Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development (SEED) who explained the Speakers Bureau and Senior Interview Day conducted in Nolan County to prepare the future workforce.

SNYDER â€“ The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the annual multi-county â€śLower Rolling Plains Agricultural Conferenceâ€ť from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, at the Scurry Coliseum, 900 E. Coliseum Drive in Snyder. â€¨â€śThe conference will cover all the important topics facing our areaâ€™s agricultural producers in the season ahead,â€ť said Zachary Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County. â€¨â€śThe topics will range all the way from cotton economics to dealing with feral hogs and everything in between,â€ť he said.
