WASP Museum to host Chamber Coffee

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the National WASP WWII Museum, located at 210 Avenger Field Road.
Sharron Davis is at the museum as the Executive Director. The museum opened in 2005 and serves as a national point of interest. The WASP Museum has one full time employee and three part time employees.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 141 calls for service, issued 17 citations and made five arrests from Oct. 28-30, 2011.

The SPD received 53, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Family violence assault — 2100 block of E. Broadway.
• Assault — 1400 block of Josephine.
• Theft — 10 block of Industrial Drive.
• Family violence assault — 900 block of Circle Drive.
• Burglary of a vehicle — 900 block of Locust.
• Criminal mischief — 1600 block of Grand.
• Robbery — 100 block of SW Georgia.

Arrested by SPD:
• Raymond Doak, 52 — Warrant.
• Male Juvenile, 14 —Assault.

Pets available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has three dogs available for adoption.
One of the adoptable pets is a white female labrador mix puppy. Another of the adoptable pets is a brown male terrier mix (shown). Another of the adoptable pets is a brown male chihuahua.
According to Sweetwater's new animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days. "I like to give these animals a chance and would rather have someone adopt them than to have to put them down."

Statewide gas price average decreases

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $3.29, five cents less than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. 
The national average is $3.44, three cents less than last week.  The statewide average price is 15 cents less than the national average. The most expensive gasoline average in the state is in Amarillo at $3.36. Corpus Christi is reporting the least expensive average in the state at $3.14 for a gallon of regular unleaded. Sweetwater is currently reporting $3.39 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued three citations and made no arrests on Oct. 27, 2011.

The SPD received 32, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Information only — 1000 block of Locust.
• Burglary of a habitation — Lakewood.
• Family violence assault — 200 block of W. Florida.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served seven civil papers and made one arrest on Oct. 27, 2011.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Jerry DeWitt Washington, Jr., 26, of Sweetwater — Warrants x2/surety withdrawal.
