The Big Country Medical Reserve Corps unit participated in three major activities including patient transport for a nursing home that was moving to a facility, the assistance of a shelter 30 miles away in Colorado City due to widespread fires in the community during the month of February, and the assistance of a shelter in Roby due to the evacuation of Rotan during the wild fires in April.
Excel classes at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater for the public have been scheduled!
Now is your chance to:
â¢ Learn to create a budget;
â¢ Organize information;
â¢ Use calculations;
â¢ Import information;
â¢ Track expenses;
â¢ Convert numbers to graphs and/or charts and more.
Each class will be one day per week, for one hour. Classes continue for six weeks and will be held in the computer lab at TSTC. Participants may choose either a lunchtime learning (noon to 1 p.m., beginning Tuesday, May 17), or early evening learning (5:30-6:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, May 18).
SWEETWATER â The Texas AgriLife Extension Service office in Nolan County will conduct a four-part series of small-acreage landowner workshops. Â
The second will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, in the Extension Meeting Room on the third floor of the Nolan County Courthouse in Sweetwater.
Other sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, and Tuesday, May 24, said Zachary Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County.
Four entered pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court this week.
Most former high school football players think they will never play again. However, Texas Alumni Football is changing that, with not one but two alumni football games on Saturday at Mustang Bowl.
It will be Roby vs. Roscoe in the opener of the doubleheader at 4 p.m. That game is followed by Sweetwater vs. Snyder in the nightcap starting at 7:30 p.m.
Texas Alumni Football is also responsible for two other Abilene-area games on Saturday. Aspermont plays Hermleigh on Aspermont's field at 2 p.m., and Stamford squares off with Haskell at Stamford's Bulldog Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
On Thursday, April 28, 2010, the Sweetwater Fire Department and the Sweetwater Police Department will be "fighting" it out for a good cause. They will be having the third Guns and Hoses Basketball Game, benefiting the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center. The game will be at the Sweetwater High School Gym at 7 p.m. and the teams will compete to see who wins this year's game. Last year's winners were the police officers and the first year's winners were the firemen. According to Sweetwater Police Officer Lance Richburg, they are hoping that many will come out to support the cause once again.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 45 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on April 20, 2011.

Sweetwater was well represented at a network luncheon in Roscoe on April 13.Â Attendees included Tim Fambrough, Greg Wortham, Jim McKenzie, Jerod Peek, Eddie Brown, Terrie Blankenship, Jacque McCoy, Ken Becker, Kirstin Smith, Kirby Andrews, Rodney Foster and Carolyn Lawrence.
Roscoe community leaders hosted one of five network luncheons sponsored by Texas Midwest Community Network this spring.Â The luncheon was held at the Roscoe Community Center.Â Immediately following lunch, discussion focused on âEffective Local Effortsâ.Â

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had six calls for service, served five civil papers and made no arrests on April 19, 2011.
The Nolan County Grand Jury handed down 10 indictments on Tuesday , April 19, 2011, with eight of those indictments sealed. One of those indictments stemmed from a crack cocaine distribution house being busted in Sweetwater on Oct. 6, 2010.
Indicted for engaging in organized criminal activity was Robert Larry Williams. The offense is classified as a first degree felony, enhanced with two prior convictions, which could get him 25 years to life in prison. His bond was set at $25,000.
Williams' prior convictions included forgery in 1985 and aggravated assault in 1991.
