The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 59 calls for service, issued two citations and made two arrests on July 5, 2012.
The SPD received 33, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
â¢Â Criminal mischief âÂ 400 block of W. New Mexico.
â¢Â Burglary of a vehicle âÂ 400 block of Bradford.
â¢Â Criminal mischief âÂ 500 block of Locust.
â¢Â Theft âÂ 200 block of SE Georgia.
â¢Â Assault âÂ 800 block of Lubbock.
Arrested by SPD:
â¢ Ittticha Kay Taylor, 29 â City warrants.
â¢ Richard Hopkins, 44 â Family violence assault.
Aglow International Sweetwater Community Lighthouse will host their monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 300 SE Georgia Avenue. Guest speaker will be Joy Blauvelt from Colorado City. Joy loves to see people set free to serve God. Joy and her husband David are on the praise team at Christian Fellowship Church in Colorado City. Joy is the President of the Aglow Lighthouse in Colorado City. The joy of the Lord is manifest in Joy's life and ministry.

A weekend event will be planned in Roscoe. Area residents are once again invited to join in the festivities âOn The Bricksâ in historic downtown Roscoe to celebrate our great nation on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
A Babysitting Camp will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Texas State Technical College activity center.
Those attending can get ideas for food, games and activities to do with the kids they are babysitting, which will be housed in a notebook that the participant gets to take home along with many other great ideas for babysitting. There will also be CPR Certification available and demonstration of first aid techniques.
Cost for the camp is $50 for students ages 13-18 years of age only.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital offered free watermelon to the community on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, to celebrate Independence Day.
Also given were small flags and patriotic footballs. Many showed up for the event and enjoyed the treats and company of others on the holiday.

When motorists return home from 4th of July trips this week theyâll be paying less at the pumps to do so.Â The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded in the Lone Star State is now $3.16, which is four cents less than last week and 18 cents less than the national average of $3.34.Â Drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.27 and motorists in Beaumont are paying the least at $3.09. Drivers in Sweetwater are paying an average of $3.17.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 12 calls for service, served no civil papers and made two arrests on July 4, 2012.

The Nolan Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) is welcoming a new member to their team â another large brush truck to its fleet.
During last summer's White Hat fire â which was the largest fire in Nolan County history, the Nolan VFD was one of several fire departments that responded. Along with them was the Sweetwater Fire Department (SFD), who unfortunately had their military truck wrecked while battling the blaze.
SWEETWATER â The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a tree health program from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, in the meeting room on the third floor of the Nolan County Courthouse in Sweetwater.
Zach Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County, said the programâs main objective will be to determine what, if anything, can be done with the many landscape trees affected by last yearâs record heat and drought.
Two male juveniles, both age 12, were arrested on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, for arson. They are suspected of starting the blaze in the burning of the Palomino Hotel on East Broadway in Sweetwater.
According to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden, a call came in at 8:29 p.m. about the fire and firefighters were able to get the blaze under control by 8:50 p.m. About 12 firefighters had made it to the scene with six units at the scene.
