According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, today will be sunny with a high near 65, breezy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 25 mph becoming west northwest. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
Tonight is expected to be mostly clear, with a low around 38. Northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

UPDATE — Childers trial begins

5:05 p.m. Update
Two witnesses in the Aubrey Childers case were heard on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 immediately after jury selection. The state called Rene Williams and Robert Carey, Jr. to the stand. The trial will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at 9 a.m.

3:55 p.m. Update:
Jury selection for the Aubrey Childers trial was chosen around 3:40 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7,2011, and began immediately. Check back for updates.

Mayor Wortham visits SMS for Speaker’s Bureau

Mayor Greg Wortham stopped by Sweetwater Middle School on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 as part of the Speaker's Bureau sponsored by SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise of Economic Development).
The Eighth Grade Career Investigations classes at SMS, taught by Irene Armstrong, learned about ways to approach and prepare for careers from Mr. Wortham. He offered a look at how different events and experiences in his own life — as early as middle school — helped him and are even used today in his employment.

Rolling Plains celebrates National Home Care Month

November is a special month for the dynamic team at Rolling Plains Home Health (RPHH), and not because of the holiday startup as one might imagine. National Home Care Month is celebrated throughout November and presents an opportune time for the division of Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital to educate the community about the benefits of home care available.

SHS graduate passes experience to young sailors

A local resident is making waves and food, all at the same time.
Culinary Specialist 1st Class (SW) Bobby Atkins recently boarded the USS Carl Vinson to teach the young Vinson sailors how to make homemade pizza. His 17 years of Navy service has given him numerous opportunities to teach culinary arts to junior Sailors.
Mr. Atkins praised the "hardworking" sailor-cooks for their "youth and motivation...a multi-talented group that juggles many things at a time."

Whataburger’s biggest fans stop in Sweetwater

Rockport, Texas residents Karl and Carol Hoepfner — officially named "Whataburger's Biggest Fans" by the restaurant — stopped into the Sweetwater location on Friday morning, Nov. 4, 2011 during their tour to visit every single Whataburger site.
Wearing their Whataburger shirts, bracelets and — most notably, their blue hats speckled with the pins mimicking the stickers on specially made orders ("no onions", "mustard", etc.), the couple recounted their journey from overnight pastime to journey of a lifetime.

Crews begin removing night and truck speed limit signs in Big Country

Crews began removing night and truck speed limit signs in TxDOT’s 13-county Abilene District on Friday, Nov. 4.
The 65 mph nighttime and truck speed limit was eliminated by HB 1353 enacted by the 82nd Legislature. Although the law went into effect Sept. 1, signs are just now coming down because the removal had to be scheduled by contract throughout the entire state, said Roy Wright, P.E., Transportation Operations Director for TxDOT’s Abilene District.

UPDATE: Services Set for ACU Bus Crash Victim Anabel Reid

A Celebration of Life service for 19-year-old Anabel Reid will be held Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas.
She died Friday of injuries from the one-vehicle bus accident that sent 16 people from ACU to area hospitals.
As of Saturday evening, seven remained hospitalized, three in critical condition.

An Abilene Christian University sophomore was killed Friday afternoon when the bus she was on crashed on US Highway 83 in southern Runnels County.

The annual Texas State Technical College Health Fair was held Thursday, Nov. 3 at the TSTC Student Center. Members of the community were invited out to receive free information and health screenings such as blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol readings.
