Master Chip Townsend, owner of the area-wide Team Chip Tae Kwon Do centers, spoke to the local chapter of the Rotary Club during their lunch-time meeting on Monday, July 23 at the local TSTC (Texas State Technical College) campus.
Before his presentation, Townsend showed two video clips to Rotarians showcasing his extraordinary ability of breaking boards, concrete slabs and other objects. The second video, courtesy of ESPN, featured Townsend and several of his students at a competition where he broke a world record.
AARP Driver Safety Program is giving a special offer to all teachers and personnel employed by the school system, as well as all who are retired, to take the Driver Safety Course for $5. The course is good for three years and those who complete the course could get up to 10% off on car insurance. Call your insurance agent for information as to how much you could save. Sweetwater Independent School District is sponsoring the classes which will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Sweetwater High School. The building is located at the corner of Crane and 12th Street.

These members of the Sweetwater FFA Chapter Officer Team attended the Texas FFA State Convention in Corpus Chirsti, July 9-14. They served as voting delegates in the election of the coming year's State FFA Officers as well as participated in other state association business.
Nolan County has recently seen some much needed rain in the area.
On July 26, 2012, Oak Creek received 0.78 inches of rain, Lake Trammell received 0.95 inches of rain and Lake Sweetwater received the most with 2.36 inches of rain. For 2012, Oak Creek has received 13.60 inches of rain, while Lake Trammell has received 14.60 inches of rain and Lake Sweetwater has received 13.95 inches of rain.
The filter plant received 0.61 inches of rain with its total for the year at 11.98 inches of rain.
Booster B has received 12.75 inches of rain for the year, with 2.20 of those inches on Thursday.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 38 calls for service, issued six citations and made no arrests on July 26, 2012.
The SPD received 31, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had four calls for service, served two civil papers and made one arrest on July 26, 2012.

The path towards ministry can be filled with many twists and turns, and Jay Neal, longtime resident of Sweetwater, is intimately familiar with just how winding that path can be. On Sunday, July 15, Lillian Jane âJayâ Neal was ordained into ministry at Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Sweetwater. Her ordination follows a recent retirement from a 29-year career as a public school teacher and marks an exciting new season in her life and spiritual journey.Â
