JavaJax recently hosted a special, mid-week live music performance on Wednesday evening, March 21. En route from Austin's SXSW (south by southwest) Music Festival to a show in Lubbock on March 22, Hudson Moore performed in Sweetwater.

Sweetwater Jaycee MichaelÂ Hurd visited students at J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center and made a presentation about rattlesnakes and rattlesnake safety for Headstart and Pre-K classes on Wednesday, March 7.
San Antonio â€“ The Swine Skillathon was held Feb. 9, at the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo.
This contest uses participantsâ€™ knowledge of the swine industry and several youth were recognized for their outstanding results by being rewarded with a 2012 San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo Scholarship.
One such youth was Tyler Brauneck of Sweetwater, Texas. Brauneck, an active member of the Roby FFA, enjoys horse judging and is an eagle scout. He hopes to eventually attend college for nursing.
The Around the World Yo-Yo Assembly was held at Southeast Elementary School. Established in 1999, Around the World Yo-Yo Entertainment Company has presented the "School is Cool" assembly program to more than 1,000,000 students at over 2,000 schools, camps and special events all over the United States. Their interactive show was filled with humor, world class yo-yo tricks and even magic. Makenzie Ince and Grayson Jeffrey are shown helping with the assembly.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, announced 225 Texas Guard and Reserve members nominated their employers for the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The agency received 3,236 nominations nationwide. Receiving one of those nominations was Skeet's Texas Grill in Abilene. Skeet's is owned by Lindley "Skeet" Smith and family of Sweetwater. The Abilene Skeet's Texas Grill restaurant was nominated by Chase Wylie, a Texas Army National Guardsman.
Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater recently announced a series of culinary classes for the community.
The first class is a Demo class that will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28. The class is only $10 a student with a limit of 30 students. Knife Skills will be taught during this class. Enjoy gourmet coffee and cookies while learning how to properly use a knife. Proper knife skills allow cooks to work much more proficiently, safer and cleaner. "Come learn how this is done from a professional chef," said Coby Baumann, Culinary Instructor at TSTC Sweetwater.
Emmanuel Fellowship Church announced the addition of a new team member to their staff. To help meet the needs of continued growth, Irene Escobar is filling the newly formed role of Associate Childrenâ€™s Pastor for the church. "Irene has been an essential part of the Emmanuel Fellowship Childrenâ€™s ministry for the past several years, serving as a classroom teacher and volunteer.Â Her faithful service has helped create the new ministry position she will now fill," said Pastor of Emmanuel Fellowship Church Eric vonAtzigen
