The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued one citation and made four arrests on April 12, 2011.

The SPD received 11, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Criminal mischief — 400 block of E. Ave. B.
• Forgery — 1600 block of Josephine.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had five calls for service, served one civil paper and made one arrest on April 12, 2011.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Kaitlin Veronika Diaz, 21, of Loraine, Taylor County warrant/bond forfeiture.
Calls for service:
• Information only — I-20 MM 240 west bound.

No action on new lake leases

The standing room only crowd at the recent April 5 hearing regarding the new lake lease paled in comparison to the 20 who attending the City Commission meeting on Tuesday morning, April 12 at City Hall.
On the agenda, the commissioners were to consider and take action regarding the expired lake lot leases at Lake Sweetwater and Oak Creek Lake. After the 45-minute closed Executive Session meeting ended and the commissioners came back into regular session, citizens were informed of the decision that there would be "no action at this time."

Many attend Taste of Sweetwater

Over 430 people attended the annual Taste of Sweetwater on Monday, April 11, at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex, benefitting the Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP). Many local restaurants featured their specialties for the public to enjoy. Many door prizes were also given during the event. Over $3,000 was raised at the event.

Sims honored at NFU Convention

National Farmers Union (NFU) adjourned its 109th annual convention in San Antonio, Texas. More than 500 Farmers Union members from across the country gathered to celebrate the past year’s achievements, look ahead to future challenges, and vote on the farm organization’s priorities for the coming year. The convention, themed, “Spur to Action,” is where NFU members are able define the focus of the organization’s work.

• Threats — 1600 block of Henderson.

Arrested by SPD:
• Edward Arrellano, 24 — Warrant.
• Tammy Spraggins, 37 — Warrants/possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Alfonso Arevalo, 29 — Warrants.
• Randell Wilson, 33 — Driving while license invalid.

Members of the Nolan County Foundations have been stressing the number 101. As reported by Homer Taylor, Executive Director of the NCF, the number represents the number of Nolan County high school graduates who have been awarded $1,000 scholarships to attend any Texas College since the NCF started the Scholarship Golf Classic in 2005.

Three people entered pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday, April 11, 2011.

Burn ban remains in effect

On Monday morning, April 11, the Nolan County Commissioners' Court met for its regular meeting at the Nolan County Courthouse.
At the meeting, a bid was received for approximately 70,000 tons of Grade 3 crushed rock for this summer's seal coating project. Vulcan Materials Company in Abilene offered the only bid to the commissioners which was accepted and approved.

The SPD received 66, 911 calls.
