Sweetwater native receives Founders Award from International Drag Racing Hall of Fame

Dave Densmore, 70, eldest son of Beth Densmore of Sweetwater and the late Dr. Al Densmore, was among six honorees Thursday night at the 25th annual induction ceremonies for the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame. Densmore received the Founders Award from Hall of Fame creator and drag racing legend Don Garlits.

FFB, SPD form partnership to stop financial exploitation of elderly

First Financial Bank, N.A., and the Sweetwater Police Department have joined together to launch an Elderly Financial Exploitation and Abuse awareness and prevention program. The program will begin immediately in all First Financial Bank locations in the Sweetwater area.

Softball celebration

Abby Garcia reacts after her three-run homer for Sweetwater in the seventh inning Monday gave her team an 8-5 softball win over Ballinger at the Jerry Collins Complex. The Lady Mustangs play again today at Midland and begin district play Friday when they entertain to Snyder.

'Dr. Burger Day' held at SIS, SMS

Math enthusiasm may be an oxymoron for many. But if anyone can get grade school kids fired up about arithmetic, it's Dr. Edward Burger.
Burger, who appeared at Sweetwater Intermediate School and Sweetwater Middle School on Friday, is a virtual rock star among mathematicians — as well as president of Southwestern University in Georgetown.

Over 3K pounds of rattlesnake brought in for 57th Round-Up

Thousands attended the 57th Annual Sweetwater Jaycees World’s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up.
The total pounds of Western Diamondback Rattlesnake weighed totaled 3,780 pounds, a slight decrease from last year’s total of 3,890 pounds.
