Highland debate teams advance to state

Highland High School has qualified four students for the 2014-2015 University Interscholastic League State Cross-Examination Debate Meet to be held March 16-21 at the University of Texas in Austin.

Rep. King hosts Sweetwater Jaycees in the Texas Capitol

Representative Susan Lewis King hosted the Sweetwater Jaycees at the Texas State Capitol Outdoor Rotunda. The Sweetwater Jaycees have held the Rattlesnake Round-Up for 56 years and have made these safety demonstrations in the Capitol a tradition.

Valentine’s Day daddy daughter dance planned

Valentine's Day became a whole lot sweeter with the "Daughter of the King" Daddy-Daughter Ball taking place in Sweetwater.
From 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, Queen B Royal Events from Abilene will partner with First United Methodist Church to hold the event at the church, located at 309 Cedar.

Burn ban remains off; reappointments made at commission meeting

The Nolan County Commissioners Court decided Monday that the intermittent, but ongoing rain the area has experienced has made it safe enough to leave the burn ban off within Nolan County for at least another two weeks.

TNB awards Good Grades Pay winners

Forty-two Sweetwater High School students made the A-Honor Roll in the third six weeks of the 2014-2015 school year and Texas National Bank continued with its commitment to recognize and award one lucky scholar from each grade with $50.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to offer professional food manager certification training course

Statistics indicate that foodborne illness continues to be a health issue in the United States. Each year, 1 in 6 Americans will become sick, 128,000 will become hospitalized, and 3,000 will die due to a foodborne illness.
If under the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) jurisdiction each food establishment is required to have one certified food manager on site.

SHS seniors receive scholarships

Sweetwater High School Seniors Mark Ruiz and Bray Amos were recipients of the Panhandle Plains Higher Education Authority Scholarship. They will each receive $100.
