Checks presented to WTBRA

The West Texas Barrel Racing Association was presented with $2,500 checks from both the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce and Nolan County Coliseum Board during the WTBRA's Extravaganza held this past weekend at the coliseum.
Presenting the checks were Kirk Maberry (left), representing the coliseum board and the Chamber, and Jeff Howard (far right), manager of the coliseum. Among those pictured from the WTBRA are president Jenny Bufkin, awards director Amanda Maxfield, vice president GiGi Robinson and secretary Laura Johnson.

Update: Sweetwater 2020 meeting rescheduled to next week

Update: The next Sweetwater 2020 meeting will be next Tuesday, April 15 (rescheduled from tonight due to schedule conflicts at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex, auditorium etc. The April 15 meeting will be at the classrooms at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (enter through the admissions area near the Emergency Room) from 6-8 pm.

Child Abuse Awareness Banquet tonight, Family FunFair tomorrow

The West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center is fast approaching their Annual Child Abuse Awareness Banquet. This year the banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex and will have a guest speaker. Each year the WTCAC hosts the Child Abuse Awareness Banquet in an effort to raise the funds needed to support child abuse victims in the counties of Nolan, Scurry, Mitchell, Fisher and Borden.

TSTC West Texas students compete in Skills USA Competition

Texas State Technical College West Texas students Hadley Holland, Nicholas Shults, Jeffrey Hardy and Spencer Mahoney from the Diesel program in Sweetwater competed at the State Skills USA competition in San Antonio. 
The group competed in the Diesel Equipment Technology portion of the competition where the contestant’s cycle through 14 stations testing and troubleshooting engines, electrical and electronics systems, power train systems including chassis, transmissions and carriers.

City issues notice for proper brush and debris disposal

The placing of junk, brush and/or debris in the alley and/or street right of way is littering and subject to a fine not to exceed $200 in addition to refuse surcharges to be applied.

Cub Scouts visit Reporter office

The Wolf Den Pack 146 visited the Sweetwater Reporter office to learn about the various departments and what it takes to construct, publish and distribute the local newspaper.

Library Tag Day raises over $7K for Library

The Women's Forum of Sweetwater sponsors Library Tag Day each year to benefit the County-City Library. This year the event took place on Wednesday, April 2, with all proceeds going to the library.
The total amount raised was 7,388.58. Donations come from local businesses, civic groups and individuals wanting to keep the local library growing and thriving.

SNCHD celebrates National Infant Immunization Week

National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is an annual observance to highlight the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases and celebrate the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities. This year’s NIIW is April 26-May 3. Infants are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases; that is why it is critical to protect them through immunizations. Each day, nearly 12,000 babies are born in the United States who will need to be immunized against 14-vaccine-preventable diseases before age two.
