Luke thought he was just ordinary. He did his daily work without notice, kept himself out of trouble and did what he was told. That was why he was totally shocked when he was told he was selected for the yearly journey. Not just an ordinary journey but the Christmas Eve trek to the Stockyards. The Stockyards, to the uninitiated, was the magical place in Fort Worth where, for many years, all the animals gathered.

Terry Minami from Abilene taught a group of children and adults how to make holiday origami ornaments at the County-City Library.Â Be sure to go by and see the beautiful origami ornaments they made to decorate the library's Christmas tree.
Sweetwater ISD recently completed their 2010-2011 United Way Campaign for the local Nolan County Chapter.Â Through the generosity and support of the SISD team members, Sweetwater ISD donated $10,000 to the local agencies supported by the Nolan County United Way.Â The top contributing campus was Sweetwater Intermediate School and the biggest increases from last year were Sweetwater High School and J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center.
Sweetwater High School students Kelsey Jones, Kaitlen Harrison and Alicia Finn are presenting a $500 check to Laura Orr, Sweetwater High School United Way Leader. The money was collected at the Junior/Senior Powderpuff Football game and donated to the Nolan County United Way to benefit the represented local agencies.
On Oct. 22, 2010, DMI Agency started a contest referred to as "Santa Bucks". This referral contest was based on their existing clients and their referrals. For each referral that a client turned in, their name was added to the drawing along with the name of the new referral.

Almost 70 year later, a young soldiers history comes back to life.
Jack Lockhart was browsing at an Arizona antique shop and stumbled across a photo frame holding a photo of a soldier. After carefully analyzing the frame, Lockhart realized that the frame wasnât just holding a photo, but history.
âI looked behind the photo and found an article, of the soldiers death,â Lockhart said.
According to the article, a chance circumstance brought two soldiers Sgt. Sie Edwards and Cpl. Otto Whittington; both of Sweetwater together before Edwardsâ final night.
The Commissioners of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) voted unanimously to grant the air quality permits necessary for the Tenaska Trailblazer Energy Center under development near Sweetwater, Texas, to begin construction.
âThis is a red letter day, for the project,â Tenaska representative Greg Kunkel, said, in an interview with the Sweetwater Reporter.
Steve and Toland Smith, two local residents, have opened a new cement company. The first pouring and official opening, of the company took place in Sweetwater Monday morning. The first job will be in a residential area, near the country club. Choice Ready Mix is able to serve a thirty mile radius; from Sweetwater to Abilene. The company will be located in Tye.
