Sheri and Hunter Crawford just returned from the 13th Annual Texas Tattoo Roud-Up held in Dallas, Texas from Sept. 16-18. Hunter won his second trophy (Top Three Artist's Choice Best Traditional Small) for a boat motor he tattooed on Sheri â a boat motor strategically placed on her chest. Hunter won his first trophy at the San Angelo show in 2010. Sheri brought home four awards more to add to her collection. She won one of the Top Three Artist's Choice in Photo Realism and Patriotic categories and two of the Top Three Artist's Choice in the Unusual category.
Tiffany Hill, longtime resident of Sweetwater and Roscoe High School graduate was one of many applicants to take the entrance exam for a place at the Sweetwater Fire Department. According to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden, 44 signed up to take the test. Only 33 of those showed up to take the written exam and 27 passed the test to go on to the physical agility test the next day. "Tiffany did exceptionally well, but fell just short of the time limit.Â She never gave up and completed the course where much bigger men did not finish the course," said Madden.Â
The fire department responded to a grass fire this week just west of the Nolan County complex fire that happened a few months ago.Â The fire was small and contained quickly thanks to the quick response of the Sweetwater Fire Department.Â Sweetwater Fire Departmentâs new brush truck, Brush 6 responded along with Brush 5.Â The fire was started when high winds caused the power lines to get together.Â Shown is Sweetwater firefighter Pat OâNeal extinguishing the blaze.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 40 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on Oct. 6, 2011.

Last Saturday the Sweetwater High School Band participated in the Buckaneer Band Festival in Breckenridge. Sweetwater was one of only three bands to earn a top rating at the contest. They received â1sâ from all three judges and also won âBest Overall Colorguardâ of the competition. Finally, sophomore clarinetist Chrysten Ivy was named âMost Outstanding Soloistâ of the entire event.
The Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club is sponsoring their second Rifle Sight-In Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011. Anyone going deer hunting next month will need to sight-in their rifle and are welcome to attend. SRPC will furnish the sight-in targets and man power to help sight-in firearms. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $3.20, seven cents less than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.Â
The national average is $3.39, six cents less than last week.Â The statewide average price is 19 cents less than the national average.Â The most expensive gasoline average in the state is in El Paso at $3.33.Â Ft. Worth is reporting the least expensive average in the state at $3.07 for a gallon of regular unleaded. Sweetwaterâs gas is currently $3.38 a gallon.

Sweetwater has recently fallen victim to a rash of vehicle burglaries in the northeast side of town. According to Sweetwater Chief of Police Jim Kelley, the burglaries began on Sunday, being the night with the most vehicle burglaries so far at 15 reported that evening. On Monday, four vehicle burglaries were reported and two vehicle burglaries were reported on Tuesday. Two were reported last night. Reports came from the 1700 block of Hailey, 1500 block of E. 12th, 1400 block of James, 1500 block of James, 1500 block of Josephine and the 1600 block of Grand.
