An area contractor will be making an appearance on a national Emmy award-winning reality show.
Charles Ray Nichols, owner of Nichols Contracting in Abilene, will be assisting Ty Pennington and the gang from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". Mr. Nichols and his team will venture to Bastrop County as they help rebuild the home of a volunteer firefighter who lost her home and art studio during the September blazes.
Completing a whirlwind tour by county officials throughout Nolan County, the 5th and final community information hearing was held last Thursday night at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex in Sweetwater.
Two important topics were covered in each of these community meetings with the first being necessary repairs to the exterior of the Nolan County Courthouse and the second covering the need for a new Nolan County Jail and Sheriffâ€™s Office. While both matters are very important, this article addresses the second issue of the jail and sheriffâ€™s office.
The West Texas VA Health Care System has increased transportation services available for Veterans in the 53,000 mile catchment area that lack reliable transportation or otherwise cannot get themselves to their scheduled appointments.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 127 calls for service, issued 10 citations and made eight arrests from Dec. 9-11, 2011.
The SPD received 55, 911 calls.

Music students of Noreen Carson performed in the Woodward Dellis Recital Hall on the Hardin Simmons University campus in the Abilene Music Teachers Associationâ€™s annual Ensemble Festival.

Each holiday season, the Womanâ€™s Forum conducts a drawing for a shopping spree, with all proceeds going towards Sweetwaterâ€™s beautification and also this year going towards the County-City Library. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is one cent more than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.Â The current statewide average is $3.12.
The national average is $3.29, showing no change from last week.Â The statewide average price is 17 cents less than the national average.Â The most expensive gasoline average in the state is in Amarillo at $3.16, two cents less than last week.Â El Paso is reporting the least expensive average in the state at $3.01 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
