The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued six citations and made two arrests on April 25, 2011.

The SPD received 17, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Criminal mischief — 600 block of W. Ave. D.
• Criminal mischief — 1000 block of Hickory.

Arrested by SPD:
• Male juvenile — Disorderly conduct.
• Gerald McDonell, Jr., 35 — Warrants.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served six civil papers and made one arrest on April 25, 2011.

Residents attend Easter sunrise service

Sweetwater residents enjoyed a sunrise service on Easter morning at the Mustang Bowl. The service was hosted by the Nolan County Ministerial Alliance. Pastors from the alliance spoke, and a praise band from First United Methodist Church led the worship portion of the service.

Burn ban remains in effect

The Nolan County Commissioners' Court met for its regular meeting on Monday morning, April 25, 2011 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Texas National Bank (TNB) was awarded the bid for the Nolan County bank depository for the next four years. After the recommendation from county treasurer Gayle Biggerstaff was given, one concern arose about long term issues. However, TNB was approved for the depository and the assurance was given that negotiations on the contract can be made at the halfway mark, though the county has never done so in the past.

Prizes to be given at Guns and Hoses event

The Sweetwater Police Department and Sweetwater Fire Department will host the third annual Guns and Hoses basketball game benefitting the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center. The game will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the Sweetwater High School Gym. Admission will be a $5 donation per person, but other donations will be taken. There will also be a concession stand and several gift cards given away during the event. The public is encouraged to attend.

The SPD received 69, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Counterfeiting — 400 block of NE Georgia.
• Theft — 400 block of NE Georgia.
• Burglary of a habitation — 600 block of Lamar Street.
• Delivery of marijuana — 400 block of Robert Lee.
• Dog bite — 200 block of Jenny George.
• Runaway — Sweetwater area.
• Burglary of a vehicle — 1200 block of Ragland.

Library offers audiobooks, eBooks and music online

The County-City Library has expanded its services with audiobooks, eBooks and music available to download from the library's website. Library card holders can check out and download digital media anytime, anywhere by visiting www.sweetwaterlibrary.org.

RISD to conduct School Board Trustee election

April 25, 2011

The Roscoe Independent School District will be conducting the 2011 school board trustee election at the Roscoe ISD Cafetorium located at 1201 W. 7th Street, Roscoe, TX 79545 on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Polls will open for election day balloting at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
Early absentee voting will be conducted at the Roscoe Independent School District Administration Building, located at 1101 W. 7th St., Roscoe, TX 79545. The first day of early voting is Monday, May 2, 2011 and runs through Tuesday, May 10, 2011, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Guadalupana Society to host benefit dance

The Guadalupana Society of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Sweetwater is having a benefit dance on Saturday, April 30, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Sweetwater. Featuring "Thoze Guyz", a band that members had been playing for about six years.
Band members are Steve Lujan, Esteban Cerda, David Ruiz and Joe Manuel Ramirez. Steve and Esteban had been playing since they were 11 years old, and they live in Sweetwater and the other two members of the band are from Dallas, and San Angelo.

Ex-star high school QBs relive their glory days

Sweetwater quarterback Terry Clemmer (10, shown) and Roscoe signal caller Jacob Villanueva were two of the many former Nolan County high school football stars who participated in Saturday's games at Mustang Bowl that were sponsored by Texas Alumni Football. Clemmer, a 1994 SHS graduate, led Sweetwater in the evening alumni game against several former stars from Snyder, while Villanueva, who graduated from Roscoe just two years ago, quarterbacked the Plowboys in an afternoon game against Roby's alumni team.

Roscoe State Bank announces promotion

The Board of Directors of Roscoe State Bank announced the promotion of Kristie Fox to Vice President/Executive Secretary. Kristie joined the bank on January 13, 2000 and has worked in multiple positions throughout the bank. She has served as John Jay's Executive Secretary during the time she has been employed.
