Ryan Mercer was commended for qualifying for state competition in boysâ€™ golf. Three other SHS students were recognized at the Sweetwater ISD School Board Meeting with resolutions honoring them for their state qualifying accomplishments. Though not in attendance, SHS girlsâ€™ track member Jayci Shelton was honored for her accomplishment in qualifying for state competition.
The Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) Board of Trustees met for its regular session meeting on Monday evening, May 16 at Sweetwater High School (SHS) in "The Hub" conference room.
Several presentations were made to open the meeting, including a variety of resolutions, a robotic demonstration and the recognition of a departing board member.
Sheriff David Warren of Nolan County announced that Doyle Lee Parsons was found at 12:35 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011, alive face down in a creek bed.
Parsons was approximately two-and-a-half miles away from the ranch house where had gone missing six days ago.
Many different search and rescue units and volunteer groups had been searching for Parsons from the first day he went missing.
Parsons was found by a Blackwell volunteer search member named Jim Monroe.
Emergency Units as well as the Sweetwater Fire Department said he was somewhat responsive once evaluated.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 58 calls for service, issued 12 citations and made two arrests on May 18, 2011.
The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had five calls for service, served six civil papers and made two arrests on May 18, 2011.

The Sweetwater City Commission met for its regular session meeting on Tuesday morning, May 17 at City Hall.
Opening the meeting was the swearing in of the Mayor and two City Commissioners. Greg Wortham will continue to serve as Mayor, while Larry May and Ricky Castro will serve as City Commissioners in Precincts 1 and 3, respectively.
The Sweetwater Fire Department recently bought and presented Gorman volunteer firefighter Matt Clark with a new helmet.Â Clark suffered from first degree burns to his face and third degree burns to his hands when he rescued a fellow firefighter during a large fire in Gorman in April of this year. Clark's helmet was dropped and destroyed in his retreat from the fire. Shown from left to right are Sweetwater firefighters Richard AcuĂ±a, Todd Donham, Matt Clark, Brad Payne and Billy Villanueva.
The May art exhibit at the County-City Library is the artwork of the West Texas Art Guild. The members displaying their work are Karen Burt, Glenda Gentry, Carolyn Walker, Pamela Walker, Ann Jennings, Estelle Howard, Judy Hill, Leada Wood, Linda Rupard and Christina Andrews.
The West Texas Art Guild is located in Colorado City. Members come from Colorado City, Big Spring, Roscoe, San Angelo, Sweetwater, Snyder and other surrounding communities. The group promotes art in several ways.

Texas State Technical College recently gave a class to six wind turbine technicians from WETS (Wind Energy Turbine Services, Inc.) in Sweetwater.Â The 16-hour class offered four hours of lecture and 12 hours of hand-on training on TSTC's mobile training unit. The Wind Energy Safe Access and Rescue class is recommended for persons who need to work at height on wind turbines and who need a method of rescue and evacuation.
