Anjelique to perform at MUSICA LATINA Concert

The SMA APPLAUSE Music Series will close its first season with a tribute to Cinco de Mayo, the MUSICA LATINA Concert, on Saturday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium.
In addition to guest artists Los Texmaniacs and Los Lobos' David Hidalgo, the Musica Latina Concert will feature local singing sensation Anjelique.

Food drive this Saturday

On Saturday, May 9, letter carriers across the country will be collecting food for families in need.
It's easy to help: collect and bag non-perishable food items (like canned meats/fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal, peanut butter and rice), and place it by your mailbox for the letter carrier to deliver to a local food bank or pantry. Please do not include items that have expired or are in glass containers.

Today, we'll have a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with partly sunny skies and a high near 86. Winds will be from the south around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Those rain chances will decrease to 30 percent tonight, with mostly cloudy conditions and a low around 67. Winds will come from the south-southeast at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Rain chances will remain in the area through Sunday afternoon, with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid 50s/low 60s. Winds will be breezy on Saturday but decrease to about 5 mph on Sunday night.

McQueen arrested again as family, community grows concerned

Billy Eugene McQueen Sr., 46, who has recently been arrested for charges that include criminal trespass, possession of marijuana, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct, was arrested again Wednesday evening, this time for misdemeanor theft of property at Walmart.

Roscoe Collegiate Early College/STEM Academy achieves 90% Associate Degrees to become national leader in early college completion rates

On Friday, May 15, 2015, 18 of the 20 Roscoe Collegiate High School (Roscoe, Texas) seniors will receive the Associate Degree from Western Texas College one day prior to receiving their high school diplomas on Saturday, May 16.

Pantoja advances to State 4-H Round-Up

Two Nolan County 4-H’ers participated in the District 7 4-H Round-up that was held last Saturday. Katie Pantoja (shown, right) competed in the Share-of-the-Fun Choreographed Routine Act and exhibited great talent with her twirling routine. Katie placed second and will advance to the State 4-H Round-up, which will be held at Texas A&M in College Station June 9-11.
Also pictured is Kevin Pantoja, who serves as a District 7 4-H Delegate-at-Large Officer as well as on the State 4-H Council. He will have duties and responsibilities at the State 4-H Round-up as well.

Free blood pressure checks at SNCHD

May is National High Blood Pressure Education Month. Normally, the health department offers blood pressure checks every Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m., but on Thursday, May 21, Shelia Ellison, LVN will be happy to take your blood pressure all day from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. Also, there will be a table set-up with information available.
