George Ray Knight, 70, died Friday, June 6, 2014 in a local nursing center. No services are planned. Arrangements are by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.
George was born June 21, 1943, in Belton, TX to Cora Ellen (Setzer) and Russell Joseph Knight. He married Darlene Greer March 20, 1985 in Sweetwater. George worked for Pricoras as a security guard from 1989 to 1995. He was a handyman who could fix anything and he loved to sit outside and enjoy nature.
Londa Ann (Neatherlin) Bowlin, age 68, of Sweetwater, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at her residence.
As per her wishes, her body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Lamar Street Baptist Church with Rev. Clay Jacobson and Dale Finch officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Cynthia â€śCindyâ€ť Ann Ortega passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. She was 41 years old.
Cindy is survived by her mother, Margie Ortega; and siblings, Lori Ortega Franco, Bill Ortega and Frank Ortega. She was a beloved aunt to Ali, Jackie and Frankie.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Ortega.
Cindy graduated from Texas State Technical College with a degree in Culinary Arts. She enjoyed cooking, baking and caring for her â€śpride and joy,â€ť her dog Harley. Cindy will be missed by numerous family members and friends.
On May 31, 2014, Jane Ellen Barton, 68, of Sweetwater, passed away at Hendrick Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Jean Horan.
She was a long time resident of Sweetwater since 1983. She was married to Tim Barton for 30 wonderful years. She was born on April 26, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Charles and Betty Oatley.
Earnie Ray Marshall, 74, of Sweetwater, passed away Friday May 30, 2014, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
His wishes were to be cremated and no further services are planned. McCoy Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Earnie was born May 2, 1940 in Ranger, TX to Henry Allen and Edna Geneva (Preece) Marshall. Earnie has lived in Sweetwater since 1996 and Midland before that. Earnie was a member of the Coronado Masonic Lodge # 1406 in El Paso and he also had a love for old cars.
Emery H. Pursley, Jr., 65, of Sweetwater, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Abilene. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Pursley was born Feb. 23, 1949, in Sweetwater. He married Margarita Rocha on Feb. 11, 1971, in Scurry County.
Emery lived in Sweetwater most of his life and was a member of Avondale Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran. He worked as a bookkeeper and also as a collection agent.
John Earl White, 69, of Wolfforth, Texas lost his battle with cancer on May 29, 2014.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 69 years on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel. James (Cotton) Webb, age 81, of Fredericksburg, (former resident of Blackwell) passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 in Fredericksburg.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Blackwell Cemetery with Rev. Daniel Dotson officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
James was born on July 3, 1932 in Tuxedo, Texas to William Hardie and Etta (Stroud) Webb. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Blackwell. He worked for Texas Oil and Gas for many years before retiring.
Suzan Diane Hewitt, 70, of Sweetwater passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Nolan Nursing and Rehab Center in Sweetwater. No local services are planned. A memorial service will be held in Oregon at a later date. Hewitt was born Jan. 6, 1944 in Portland, Oregon. She moved to Sweetwater in 1965, moved away in 1980, then returned in 2011. She was a graduate of Texas State Technical Institute in Sweetwater and was employed there as an Administrative Assistant. She was a United States Navy veteran.
Ashley Nicole Stevenson, 20, of Lubbock, passed away unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
