Breckenridge’s fourth-quarter rally was too much for the Sweet-water girls basketball team to over-come here Tuesday as the Lady Mustangs were defeated, 44-40, in their home opener of the season.
The Lady Buckaroos finished the game with a 10-3 run, taking their first lead with 1:28 left while taking advantage of Sweetwater’s struggles at the free throw line. The Lady Mustangs made just 4 of 18 for the game, including 2-of-9 in the fourth quarter, and also had 33 turnovers, but still had a chance to win or at least force overtime until the final seconds of the contest.
Talk about working overtime.
For some reason, that’s what the Sweetwater boys basketball team has to do when it faces Hawley.
After having to go overtime to beat the Bearcats in both meetings this past season, the Mustangs once again required an extra period to beat Hawley, 71-62, here Tuesday in their 2010-11 season opener.
The Roscoe girls cross country team finished in 11th place at this past weekend at the state meet held in Round Rock. The Plowgirls qualified for state with a third-place finish the previous week at the regional meet in Arlington. The Plowgirls were coached by Kelli Joe Sexton and Jessie Smith. Individually, Morales had the highest finish as she placed 29th.
